150 gallon experiment

So I was standing in the basement today staring at my empty 150gallon tank when an idea hit me for a terrarium setup... Why not replicate a cutout of a house/deck/sandy desert-like setup? We rebuilt our garage and have a bunch of 2x4s, drywall, bricks, you name it we got it. I could totally turn this into a desert style landscape.

So with the tank being 6 feet long, I figure we have more than enough room for a cutout of everything. I'll try to get a drawing up of what I mean as I suck at describing things, lol. but the tank would be layered as outlined below.

Far right would be interior of a house, followed by drywall, 2x4s(no insulation) and bricks for the outside of the house(built all the way to the roof of the terrarium). Included in this would be of course be a door or window with cracks for the to crawl through. Temps kept at low 70s

Middle would be a wooden or brick porch. Temps in the 80s

left would be sand, possibly with some cactus

far left would be desert with rocks. Temperatures around low 90s

I don't know what scorpions would be kept in it(temps listed would change of course), figured I'd put this out there for ideas. But the idea kinda excites me as it would be interesting to see where the scorpions prefer, and how they react in the different environments.

This is obviously in the very early stages, but I'm for sure interested in any feedback/ideas you guys may have.

Sounds awesome. You can even study how different desert species living together with that space. Lolz

To be honest, the thought of different species did cross my mind... any suggestions on a few that *might* play nice together?

I say might as there are of course no guarantees

You could try to replicate the climate of a certain geography (country) and then pick the species according to that.

But of course :-) My friend recently moved to Arizona, which is what gave me the idea, and is pretty much what I was basing this idea on. I like the idea of a communal Arizonensis tank

You could throw in a few pallidus/obscurus/spadix too for color. Don't know where you are though, and what can you find. Arizona is pretty scorpion rich region so could be cool!

I'm currently building a 30g paludarium, and a gecko terrarium out of an iMac at the moment. After these 2 complete I'll turn my attention to the 150

Sounds like you have some cool projects going on. I would put L.Q.s in the 150 they are my most active scorpions. I got that $80 deal. Its a good deal all them are doing very well. Buthacus Arencoli

Parabuthus villosus if you can find. Don't know how good they'll do communally, but they are diurnal scorps which is pretty cool.

Ahh man that black morph looks awesome! But from a quick search, it appears they're even harder to get than the crassicauda that I'm looking for, lol
