Well I caught this girl back in April. She decided to drop a brood on me sometime in the past couple of days. It was about a week or so ago that she closed off her burrow. There is a small peak hole into her den through the side of the enclosure. I peeked in with my flashlight today and she had a little rice blob with a tail standing on her head. I have no idea how many there are since she dug a burrow so I'll just have to wait until she gives them the boot. Definitely still first instar though...

I didn't breed her, but caught her gravid rather. I thought I'd share here anyway.

That is some great news Mitchell.

You know you have to watch for them 24/7 now? I had to with my bicolors.
They really climb the sealant and I didnt want them roaming the house.

So after a day or three I saw 1... 2... 5... scorplings leaving the underground burrow.. skittish, nervous and fast. Have fun catching them :-D

Whats an average size brood of these?

Anyway gz!

Indeed. They are in a critter keeper so it's a solid molded plexi enclosure. No sealant to climb. I'm not sure what the average brood size is either. I guess we'll see when the other one pops. I have a male as well so I plan on pimping him to goth girls in a couple of months after the broods have left.

Well here we are. Not as flashy as Sam's Androctonus, but still great!

This momma's fingers cross when they close. It'll be interesting to see if this is passed on to her young, or more likely she just healed weird after a molt. strange though that it affects both hands symmetrically.

Well I'm thinking about making stir fry.

Seriously though, I'm probably going to end up keeping a few to study growth. The rest will get sent off.

Babies from the first brood look to be molting. She's the one in the burrow with only a tiny peep hole. I see a little pile of them right against the glass. The hole is about the size of a couple pencils so it's hard to tell what's going on....

Alright. Both broods have molted to i2 successfully. The first brood is still in the mothers burrow. None have ventured outside of it as of yet. The second brood molted today to i2. I came home from work and watched the last few molt. Interestingly enough, both broods molted to i2 exactly nine days after birth.

Pictures of brood 2 incoming.

So my camera battery was dead, and I left town for the weekend. I am home now and have separated the brood from one of the mothers. My first mother's brood is still in her burrow. There were six babies out so I grabbed them. The second mother had a total of 41 babies. One was dead on the substrate beneath her, and another didn't molt successfully. The other 39 are living in deli cups now.

Alright. Using a large breeding box to house the deli cups. It's a little larger then a 10 gallon tank in width and length, just not tall. 44 cups in there.

And one of the i2's. Holding a beer cap behind the second shot for size reference.

They are just too small to get any good shots of them with my non macro lens...

Looks very tidy I must say. So when they're ready you release them back in the wild over there, or?

I will sell them to those that want them. If I end up with a bunch left over they will go into a community tank.
