Giant Desert Hairy Tank Empty
PostSubject: Giant Desert Hairy Tank   Giant Desert Hairy Tank Empty5/21/2011, 1:41 am

Finished setting up my future giant desert hairy scorpion habitat. Used the play sand as you guys suggested just need it to dry out so gonna wait a few weeks for it to dry and the humidity to drop.

On the right i bought a small pot of varied live cactus in a pot (none of them have sharp needles). In the middle is a small rock reptile decoration with a hole so he can climb through it. On the left is his hideout which is made up of two flat rocks i found outside and a reptile water dish flipped on its top as the top piece. Its pretty deep and long.

He should have plenty of room to move around and should be able to move around the entire edge of the tank. I always try and make sure nothing is too close to the tank sides or they might get stuck.

As i read you dont need to have a water dish for these scorpions so i bought some of that gel cricket water to make sure the crickets have water in their system for feeding. I may put a water dish in every week for a few hours in case he needs a drink.

What do you guys think of the setup? Sorry for the crappy photo >.<

Lookin' good! I like the plants. I've always wanted to incorporate live plants into a habitat, but I very much lack the green thumb my father possesses.

I'm bad with plants too but cactus are pretty hardy so I should be ok. The stupid fake desert plants at petco sucked and one was as expensive as that whole pot of live cactus i bought at lowes so I decided to go live for this tank.

I've managed to kill cactus dead on a few occasions ha ha. I agree about the fake ones looking terrible though. Just wretched.

I think you'll enjoy your Haddy too. I know mine has become one of my favorites. I don't see it much, but it's always worth it when I do. They are great scorpions.
