Scorpion Prey Hiding on the top of Plants? Empty
PostSubject: Scorpion Prey Hiding on the top of Plants?   Scorpion Prey Hiding on the top of Plants? Empty5/2/2010, 3:39 am

I've recently placed fake plants in most of my scorpion tanks. As I came back later, I found that ALL the crickets in their tanks were perched on the highest point of the plants.

I thought this might be a cricket characteristic... but my Asian Forest prefers small Arizona Bark Scorpions for food (I realize this may be scorpion blasphemy to some of you, but I find them every day living in AZ) and the little Bark was perched on the highest point of a plant as well. Fear? They must know they're in a tank with a humungous arachnid that is going to eat them? Interesting.. I'd probably be doing the same..

Have any of you seen similar behavior?

Interesting, do you remove the stingers?
I'm sure it knows the asian forest is there. I have crickets and they keep a good distance away from the scorpions. Sometimes they venture near the burrows and quickly turn around. At times I will use a stick to push the cricket into the burrows but they will push back and try to escape.
New crickets that I place into the enclosure come to know that the burrow is a death hole and avoid it. They hide on top of my plants or driftwood as well.

Yes i did remove the stinger. I suppose you could call it an experiment I tried, but I definately won't be doing it on a regular basis.

No worries
Quite a few people feed their desert hairy scorps bark scorpions as well, but I think that naturally occurs in the wild.
