| Interesting closeup on the eyes -- this is the first species I've noticed more than three pairs of lateral eyes. | |

i noticed that, finishing the pics in photoshop. i took detailed pics today and checked some of my other scorpions. i counted from two to five lateral eye pairs. some parabuthus have three regular sized and two smaller pairs. a.australis: 4 pairs, some centruroides: 2 pairs. i may be wrong, it's kind of hard to spot on a moving scorpion. on dark species it's impossible to see without a microscope. The Biology of Scorpions / G.Poils page 30: [...] Along each anterolateral margin of the carapace are from zero to five lateral eyes, which vary in number among species. These are usually paired, that is, with the same number of eyes on each side, although specimens are occasionally found with, for example, three lateral eyes on one side and two or four on the other.
