| I went to check on my U. mordax today, and found her crawling with at least 16 of the biggest mites I've ever seen! I know that "big is good" with mites, but I'm not sure about these . . . Any suggestions?? | |

| Yes, this is one of my WC U. mordax and my largest female. I got her because I have connections -- someone in an entomology class at OSU found a scorpion and got in touch with a friend of mine in that class who got in touch with me who was willing to provide the proper habitat because the catcher didn't know what to do. She was caught in April 14 miles west of Corvallis. I have another female who I believe is an adult that I caught at the very end of May who, if she was gravid, had already had her brood -- I think that to be entirely possible, considering I saw two what looked like 2I in the same locality. Makes me think mountain populations have their broods earlier in the year (???). The "mountain" female was caught halfway between Eugene and Bend. | |

| It's been a week, so I looked in again . . . no one's molted yet, and the pile looks a little larger, so I think I may have caught her in the act when I first found her. | |

| Well, what do you know? I've only been looking by holding a flashlight to the side of the tank and looking in underneath the hide . . . all I saw was white, so I didn't bother to lift the hide. Tonight I got frustrated and took a couple pictures. You can see a couple molts in the second picture, but no one has darkened up yet. My guess is now at least 17. It was so funny watching a few skitter around when I lifted the hide. I'm thinking of trying a "juvenile community" by just removing mom once they all scatter. | |

| Bit of an update -- I checked on her today and it looks like most everyone has molted. They're scattering more and you can see more exuviae on mom's back, and they're all a little darker than last time. I'll be taking better pictures once Lori gets back with the Canon. | |
