Cap those false bottom fill tubes

This is really embarrassing. Even though every post I read regarding false bottom tanks recommended
blocking or capping the fill tube when not in use, I put it off as "something to do later". Well, guess what?
I now have an aqua cricket. Hopefully, the photos below will motivate everyone to cap your fill tubes.

After capping, the fill tube is still an attractive nuisance. The fake plant is a feeble attempt to hide the fill tube,
but all it really does is provide a stairway to cricket heaven. The tank is home to a sub-adult emperor that apparently
is not very hungry right now.


I'm not really happy with the current cap, but it's all I had available. I may need to find a good old fashioned
cork or perhaps the right sized marble.

Aw man how frustrating! Other than the new aquatic cricket decor, how is your rope false bottom performing?

The false bottom with the rope wicks is working out well. I add water about every two weeks or when the
water level drops down to about 1/8 inch. The humidity is stable at around 85% and the substrate is moist
to the touch. 16 wicks appear to be sufficient for a 10x20 inch tank.

I'm sorry if anyone took offense at the picture of the dead cricket.
