| I would say any Grammostola or Brachypelma. My preferred Grammostola is the G pulchripes or commonly known as Chaco Gold Knee Tarantula. They grow quite big and are easy to keep.
brachypelmas are also easy enough but flick more hair

| Aphonpelma are nice they just take very long to grow.
I would go for a juvenile Gramostola or Brachypelma. The type of each is up to you really as they all have the same care more or less

| i would agree that brachypelma and grammostola genus are indeed for beginners. you should try checking out a.geniculata and n.chromatus too as they have nice dispositions most of the time and both are also nice Ts for all skill/exp levels | |

| I have had the best luck with terrestrial (ground-dwelling) species. As mentioned, Grammostola Pulchripes/Chaco Golden Knees are nice looking, but can be moody. Also have a Grammostola Rosea/Rose Hair which is quite common. I love my Paraphysa Scrofa/Chilean Copper...beautiful copper sheen on black. I have an Euathlus sp. Red which is still a sling, but they are supposed to be very docile and get to only 2.5 in. to 3 in. which is easy to house. Just ordered an Aphonopelma Chalcodes/Arizona Blonde which is supposed to be good. Brachypelma Smithi is another popular choice. For aboreal (tree-dwelling) species I would only recommend Avicularia species, and get the bigger juvie or an adult. They need good ventilation and high humidity. I've tried slings and they both died. Desert species are easier in my opinion. Good luck and just do your research. Jon on YouTube has a great Mythbuster series you'll want to checkout as well.

| Acanthoscurria geniculata are great T's. Big nice looking , active and eat like pigs.
They need more humidity and can be more aggresive than Grammostolas.

| chaco golden knees are usually friendly, and grow to about 8 inches
mexican red knee is another usually calm species that can live over 25 years supposivley.
chillean rose can be moody but i havent had a problem with any of mine.

| Hair flicking is no big deal and would only be a problem if you get your face close to the abdomen when the T is irritated. It's the T's way of taking the fun out of sneaking up on it. As for the gf, start easy...like maybe a Spiderman marathon and see how that goes! | |

| Hahahaha i sneaked a male chaco gold knee in about 2 years ago and now i have about 70 chaco spiderlings plus about 30 more of other species.
In theory the chile rose will flick less but my white knee does not flick at all. I guess its down to the individual T.
I have a male and female salmon pink (Lasiodora parahybana) and the female is really docile and the male a nasty piece of work.

| I have a B.Vagans sling, and it kicks hairs AND bites. All,or almost all, new world tarantulas kick hairs. | |

| Really any Avicularia, Brachypelma, Grammostola, or Aphonopelma species are good for beginners. | |

| My mexican red knee goes right to biting before flicking hairs he is fed pretty well too so I dont know what his deal is on the other hand my more aggressive T my venezuelan suntiger will run up and down and around my arm without showing aggression at all same with my cameroon brown. So it really is up to the T and that is what is so cool about T's each and every one of them has there own personality which is awesome! But definitely start off with a Brachy or a rose hair just to get your foot in the door then move up thats what I did. | |
