| i was reading the tarantula keepers guide and it said that no one has ever died from the venom of a tarantula bite
although two people have died, one from lock jaw, and the other from rabbit fever, but thats not from the toxicity of the venom.
it said most bites are just swelling and pain
but you could have more severe reaction and get nuasea, dizziness, and sweats.
and also it said that an allergic reaction from tarantula venom is unheard of.
i didnt know any of this, it was very interesting to read about.

Yes, Poecilotheria species have potent venom. I have a 7+ inch female P. pederseni (or "Ghost Ornamental"), that I certainly hope doesn't bite me at any point.

| Yeah, getting bit by a Poecilotheria wouldn't feel all that good...
As far as tarantulas go, they have pretty powerful venom...I've heard of people going to the hospital because of the pain.
In short, be careful, as with all venomous inverts.

| Rob?
Yeah, he's been bitten by a P. regalis and a P. ornata. (The latter of which was definitely worse.)

| Its ashame because aside from a muscle relaxer they cant really do much for you .. obviously monitor heart rate and breathing but not much for the pain/cramping/swelling ive heard. | |
