| i bought a mature male G. rosea from petco about 6 months ago
and he was in petco for about six months before i bought him
so he has been mature for over a year
he NEVER used his hide, maybe for like 5 minutes one time
and he has been in his hide now for over 2 weeks straight without coming out
he put up a web over the entrance of the hide
this is the first time i seen him make a web like that
do tarantulas go into hiding before they die ??
his normal behavior is that he moves around his cage
he is usually in a different spot evertime i check on him
its not normal for him to be in hiding for over two weeks

| How cold is it in your house? or enclosure? This species in the wild will make webs over the entrances of there hides when temperatures get low enough. I am sure that this is why he is exhibiting this behavior nothing to worry about mine has been in its hide for a while as well and I believe he might be getting ready to do the exact same thing yours has. | |

| its about 70 degrees in the house.
but im not sure if thats why its hiding
becuase we lost power a few months ago for about a week and the house was freezing and the spider didnt make a web and go into hiding then
also my female is in hiding shes walking around her tank all day
and my baby spider isnt hiding either
i think hes just getting ready to die

| Well I wouldnt assume the worst yet it just might be a late reaction to the cold since you did have a freezing house for a bit. But they do this in the wild and its something that isnt associated with dying also if you review the symptoms of a dying spider this is never mentioned from what I know so I wouldnt worry about it just let it be and see where things go from here. Spiders are survivors and especially G. roseas who are used to harsh conditions they are not a fragile species. | |

| yes im 100 % positive its male.
from what i learned reading other posts.... males die about a year after they mature
and he has been mature for over a year
and im just adding up the age with the odd behavior
he never used to use his hide and for him to be in his hide for over 2 weeks with a web up
hes never done that before

| What could have happened, if it's male:
It made a spermweb, adult males can do that. It is a very thick webbing where the male deposits a few drops of sperm, in order to coax a female to press her abdomen to it in order to get pregnant.
Some males live for a while longer after this has transpired. Others die very quickly , in order to find out what happened, you will have to check I think if it's still alive.

| he used to lay sperm webs around his encolsure a few months ago, but he stopped doing this.
hes been coming out of his cave pretty often
but i was just worried when he first went in his cave, webbed it up and didnt come out for weeks...
it must be from the cooler weather cuase when it was warmer he never used his hide.
hes on a fast too.... hasnt eaten in a few months.
hes still friendly tho i held him the other day for the first time in months.
