are these both adults ????

i was trying to look at the stingers color but im having a hard time i dont know if im correct or not, do u think these are both adults ??? ones bigger then the other one.

It's kinda tough to say but I'll lean towards yes they are both mature. However I think they will both get larger. Or they have 1 more molt in them. See that's the tough to say part. The chubby one in your hand looks small and chubby so if anyone isn't done molting I'd guess that one.

i thought the small chubby one was going to molt untill i saw the red stinger, i thought they didnt molt once there stinger was red. so i thought maybe they had sex and its pregnant but i dont think so becuase they never come out of there burrow and i dont have a flat slate for them to have sex on. the small chubby one looks too small to be an adult but i dont know why its stinger looks red then.

The stinger color is the guideline and although yours look red now maybe they are going to molt and get darker. Every molt they darken up a bit more and there's no exact color to look for.
Also they don't always need to wait for a flat stone. If there was a flat piece of wood and exposed bit of the bottom of your tank that would do too. It just has to be suitable for your male to want to plant his sperm. So if something is close enough and they really want to mate they can do it anywhere. A rock is just optimal.

Look like we're going to have to wait and see? Unless someone with more experience then me comes along and can tell you for sure the age of your emps.

Not to be a jerk have you confirmed that you have breeding pair and not 2x male or 2x female?

well there is 5 emps all in the same tank, when they were trying to climb the glass months ago i tryed to look at there pectines and the oval thing to see weather they were male or female but i was unsuccessfull. that was when they were smaller

i was going to buy clear deli containers and put them in and get a better look.

With 5 it will be super easy for you to compare and notice the heart shape of the females sexual opening and the overall football shape of the males.

i emailed ken the bug guy. he says they can still grow but yes both are mature. great now i just need to find out if its male and female.
