| Subject: My EMP has 2 missing legs? 10/12/2012, 8:13 pm | |
| I can tell that it's an adult, the telson's colour is dark red. I'm guessing that somebody has encountered it before, attacking it with something for some reason, which is why it lost 2 legs. I can't really say if it was removed or anything since it looks like it's incomplete. The two legs are next to each other. It looks incomplete, is this an in-born sickness?
I can't find coco fiber, are there anything that emps would like besides it for its substrate? Why coco fiber anyway?
PS: I actually don't have a tank yet, I'm keeping it in a quite-big container with sand/mud in it? AM I DOIN IT RITE? I think it actually likes it. I put some obstacles like a tree bark (circle shaped) for it to burrow.

Okay. . . I'm skeptical but I'm willing to keep an open mind. - Lioth wrote:

On this forum, we try to avoid posting multiple threads on the same topic. It simply makes it easier to keep track of all the questions and answers. I will answer your questions on your other thread, but it will most likely get moved to this one.

Good to know. It also shows that you've done some research. - Quote :

Okay, which legs? Did it loose the entire legs, or just part of it? Pictures would be helpful. - Quote :
- I can't find coco fiber anywhere, are there anything that an emp would like besides coconut fiber for its land?
Why coco fiber anyway? Coco fiber is used mainly because it holds moisture well, and when compressed is stable enough for burrowing. - Quote :

I think it actually likes it. I put some obstacles like a tree bark (circle shaped) for it to burrow. It doesn't sound too bad, although, the substrates doesn't sound optimal. But then again, pictures speak a thousand words on this sort of thing. I'd say it should be fine as a temporary tank.

| Your Emp is definitely missing the lower half of a couple of legs. I can't tell how old the injury is, but if there's no fluid leaking from the wounds, your scorpion should survive.
Your substrate looks dry and rocky. Below is a link to a video of Emperor scorpions being collected in Togo. It'll give you an idea of the type of terrain in which Emperors dig their burrows. The narration is in German, but you can turn on English subtitles.

Edit: I should add that Emperors are also found in rain forest and jungle like habitats, as well as, the (savanna?) habitat featured in the video.

Thanks, it gave me a lot of ideas. Tanks are not available here, I'm not even in the capital city. It does increase chances of catching wild scorpions since the forests here are rumoured to have dangerous animals.

| You guys still don't have a conclusion? I'm actually confused too but there's no doubt that the scorpion I have right now is an Emperor one. I'm just wondering what kind of black scorpion they have here that kills people with their stings.
Thanks for being patient btw..

From my experience stories such as those are so exaggerated in Africa. Over here it is said that if a black mamba bites you, you will die with 20-30 min even though no cases like these have ever been documented and black mamba venom takes more than 2 hours to kill a person. The same stupid stories are applied to scorpions here as well. People think a Parabuthus transvaalicus can kill you in a matter of minutes. Back to the question though. The only very dangerous black scorpion I can think of is Androctonus bicolor but they occur in Libya and not Liberia.

Back to the question though. The only very dangerous black scorpion I can think of is Androctonus bicolor but they occur in Libya and not Liberia. Who knows? I don't think Liberia knows their own species of scorpions. It's a little unexplored. I've asked about 9 people here, they said that they have only seen black scorpions so far. That's obviously no lie or troll. The white ones should be the babies. I found this picture on the internet: "This is an original 1906 black and white halftone print of the world's largest scorpion, measuring 6.5 inches. These scorpions are native to Liberia, Africa." It says " PANDINUS IMPERATOR" below. This is proof that there are Emperor Scorpions in Liberia, and the biggest ones are probably in here. I really can't find any scorpion holes/caves. I might have seen some but I just can't identify them clearly. This is what one looks like, right? I'm digging some holes today, I'll be back..

| As Liberia is a coastal country with a more wet and humid environment it can be said that all the people only saw Emperors and no highly dangerous scorpions. Just my opinion though. | |

Maybe. I live in Harper, Maryland County. It is in the right edge of Liberia, going to Côte d'Ivoire. Côte d'Ivoire must have lots of Emperor Scorpions. I'm not sure about the rain forests of other counties in Liberia. I do think that they them everywhere. I'm not sure about the deadly ones, or if there are deadly ones, or if they are actually deadly. This is a scorpion cave, right? I don't see any of these holes in our backyard. I think they're there, It's just that they can't be found or something. They're probably hidden somewhere. :/
