New Emp Empty
PostSubject: New Emp   New Emp Empty8/14/2012, 7:22 pm

Hi Everyone,

I have a new Emperor Scorpion that I just brought home from Petco earlier today. He/She explored the tank briefly and then ended up in the hide. How long should I wait to feed? They had a couple crickets in the tank at the store that were not eaten but that is hardly a good indicator since there were several scorps piled under one hiding log.

Humidity is around 80%, temp is in the mid 70s, water dish is full of fresh H2O and the substrate is Eco Earth.

Also, the scorpion's telson is the color of an adult, though it is relatively small in comparison to others I have seen. Are some just smaller?

Thanks!

I'd wait a few days before trying to feed it. How big is your scorp? The average size for an emp is between 4 and 6 inches.

I am unsure of the exact size, I don't want to disturb it now that it's hiding. It was the largest in the tank but it is nowhere near as large as many I've seen. Rough gestimate I would say it's around 3 to 4 inches.

Yeah, some emps are just smaller than others.

make sure you are measuring him from moth parts to acules (tip of stinger)
also his telson should be reddish brown if he is intact an adult because my emp is bigger than yours and mine is only a subadult

Some scorpions may start feeding straight from a fresh shipment while some will require time to "settle down"

Give it a week of adjustment to his/her new enclosure before you start feeding.

If they're hungry then, they should take the offer readily Smile
