| I saw this seagull running around in the freeway calling for its mom. It was weird seeing all the cars almost run over it and the people who didnt care one bit.. After I had taken a GOOD look a around the area for nests and other young (they usually lay 3 eggs) I was sertain the other ones had passed away or something like that and figured I was the only hope for the little one. I took it home and forcefed it with fresh fish. After feeding it a couple of times today it has gotten very tame and eats easily of my hand. It is extremely cute, lol I feed it every hour with 3/4 of what it is able to eat. (I calculated that out from how much it ate the first times). It's doing great and it seems to love lying in my lap outside in the sun, like I'm incubating it or something I plan to release it when it learns how to fly Here is a picture I will update this thread with the progress and offcourse pictures as it grows | |

| Most marine birds look very similar when young so cant blame him, allthough ducks have flat beaks | |

| I wouldnt bother releasing it once it can fly, it will probably die shortly after, rehabilitating birds is pretty hard, once they have gotten used to humans, they never really fit back in with birds If it like you, keep it as a friend. Birds can make pretty sweet little companions | |

If it like you, keep it as a friend. Birds can make pretty sweet little companions I agree with Lycan. Unfortunately, with birds, if they don't fear humans, they don't typically survive long. Between natural predators, stupid people and the lack of ability to hunt properly, they typically don't fare well. Good thing smelt is very cheap and birds don't necessarily eat a whole lot. Might end up being a very cool companion. Best of luck to you both!

| I also agree that most rescued birds couldn't survive after being set free of captivity since chicks. But cool bird. | |

Thats just so not true. Birds get rehabiliteted all the time, all around the world. I've never really heard of any bird rehabilitating projects where the birds don't normally survive. Veterinaries and animal shelters here in Bergen have told me they have rehabilitated pretty much all species of birds we have in Norway, and they all mostly survive. Especially seagulls, crows, ravens, magpies and small seed eating birds. Unfortunately, this seagull didnt survive up to being released because he got a bad infection and had to be put to sleep. Very sad I know birds are great pets, but I'm very much against taking them from the wild for one's own selfish pleasure. I have a cockatiel and a budgie and they are extremely tame and talkative. They both love singing if you're happy and you know it clap your hands (not flawlessly ).
