| First let me welcome you to the best scorpion forum on the web. Secondly be very careful with all scorps. I'd say do some research. Find the least venomous and the least aggressive, then go to work. | |

| Scorpions generally do not like to be handled. I know it's tempting, I was the same when I started. But I would advise against it, as not to stress/harm the scorpion, specially if you're planning on doing it regularly.

| If you really want to handle occasionally, go for AFS, not all of them can be handled though (some species are more aggressive). By thicktail I suppose you mean Parabuthus... you donĀ“t want to get your hands near those. | |

| Yeah Heterometrus/Pandinus can be held without too much fuss but I don't recommend making it a regular thing, only occasionally, due to the stress it can put them under. Definitely leave handling fat/thick tailed scorps like Parabuthus and Androctonus to GS | |

| Trouble with buying scorpions by common name is you won't know what actual species you'll be getting. Most common names could mean multiple species. What really is an Asian Forest Scorpion? Could be one of a number of different species that are all hard to tell apart.
Also anything with a much thicker tail usually means it has more potent venom and definitely advise against handling. | |

| Check out Hoffmannius spinigerus. They don't have a bad sting, the tail is pretty fat in comparison to the body and they're pretty easy to get hold of. They're pretty small and fast though so not suitable for handling at all. | |

| Nobody can tell which scorpion will remain "calm" during handling as no one will know for sure what is the scorpion thinking at any point of time, thus making scorpions unpredictable. Handling are always not recommended, especially to beginners. They lack the necessary knowledge e.g. what a particular scorpion's venom can do to them or the impact it does to the surrounding. e.g. In the event that a highly venomous scorpion was lost in a home where there might be infants or young children around. For the more experience keepers, you do not see them asking opinions on handling scorpions as they know that there are always risks in handling, and in the event of mishaps, they can only hold themselves responsible for their own decisions *including myselfAs a beginner, it is a wiser decision to spend more time researching on the ideal captive conditions they can provide to the scorpions they are keeping or planing to keep and not trying to get opinions from forumers on which scorpion they should start handling next. Before further discussion regarding suggestion for scorpion handling or off-topic conversation (regarding to the purchase of scorpions) continues, this thread will be closed. For buying/sales related, as suggested by DolbyR & Jay, please use the classified instead. Regards, GS
