Charles The Scorpion

No, I use it the same way but I think if it's to big it'll burn up the side of the lamp. You can get a special one for ceramic heater. But Mine is over 1 year old and doing fine in a regulard lamp.

just put mine in.. doesn't seem to give off enough heat. went out and came back and the temp dropped

had to put the red one back in. both are 75w.. strange

Charles has been getting aggressive lately.. Idk whats the deal? Lonley? I go to wipe of the walls of the tank and he comes out pinching. Maybe hungry?

Maybe...it's just being a scorp...go figure

They can get pretty defensive while they're in the tank -- nothing unusual about that.

well I did it, went out and bought 3 more emps for 13 bucks total. The guy at petco said if I buy all 3 he'll give me 75% off.. SO i gave in. Found that Charles isn't an adult, i thought his stinger had to be full white to be a youngen. not just a little bit. I have 2 adults now for sure! they are way bigger! almost double. 1 of the adults shacks a lot. Got the chills? I have no idea. The adults seem to grasp the concept of hunt way better the the younger ones! Its amazing. I saw that they were very skinny so i bought 20 crickets or so. Got home and they just started munching on them. The one that shacks "Shacky" i call him, was eating 3! 1 in each claw, and one in its mouth. Haven't sexed the new ones yet.

New problem I rearranged the tank before i put them all in. I didn't take charles out of the tank though. keeped him in there while i was rearranging. The other 3 cling to each other but Charles seems to be pushing them away. Puts one claw up like a shield and starts pushing them. And then uses his tail to pretend to sting him?

Very strange, so far the little hut i bought for charles isn't big enough for all of them, so i need to upgrade that.. But all 3 new ones are in there.

Adult 1 (AKA Shacky) Way big, Shacks a lot, whats the deal on the shacking? Also some white powder on his stinger, When i saw the tank i bought them from it had some powder on top of the substrate.

Adult 2 Seems to have a gash on his skin, from a fight? Someone stepped on it? I dont know. Would i need to treat it with anything?

Teen 1? bigger then Charles but still has white on the stinger. So charles is a baby??

the shaking is a scorpions way of communicating.
Sometimes the shaking means *if the right time* "heeey im a male scorpion and i want you to know im ready to mate with you"
or it can mean "im a scorpion and im big so back off"
or he could just be putting out "feelers" to the other scorpions around him to say "I am a scorpion dont eat me"...

But I would say it more then likely means "im a scorpion" and giving the "warning" shakes.

us the gash "bleeding"? if so put some flour on and into the wound to stop him/her bleeding.

White means "juvy"
cream means "sub adult"
and brown as you know means adult

Yeah the one that shacking seems to be the biggets one, so im guessing hes' just letting charles know hes there?

Thats right! it was flour! Blood stopped when the sold it to me. Its all dry. Both Adults have flower on them i believe. looks like "shacky" went into the floor so its on his tail. Haven't named the other 2 yet.

well those two adults might not get on too well with each other then. No wonder he sold them at bargin prices. It could be two males who are fighting? and both got injured.
Keep you eyes on them, they might be a problem together.

they seem to be doing fine. no fights so far.. and they all seem to be ok with charles as well.. only time will tell.

Shacky is one heck of a digger though! dug under the hut to make it bigger for all of them.. XD

The white stuff is scorpion poo -- when Connie mentioned flour that was as a coagulant to stop any bleeding.

The shaking (I believe you mean shaking / shaky / shakes, as "shacking" would have something to do with one of these) is probably doing something called "juddering," where a male scorpion will lift himself onto tip-toe and shake back and forth -- it's part of scorpion courtship, so he's probably saying "how YOU doin'?" to a female scorpion in the tank.

One of my new ones looks really super fat.. like its going to blow up... but i did just feed them.. o.O

It's always possible, but it can take up to 18 months with this species -- don't hold your breath.

it took a big dump in the front, or i think it was that one.. its so hard to keep track now lol! I got some footage of them burrowing at 2am last night ill upload it soon. Very interesting to watch. 2 of them just wanted to dig for some reason. Really cool =D

One the of the scorpions has super white claws and a white Stinger.. whats the deal? the other 3 are doing fine..

that may be a juvinile or subadult. they cant breed yet.

or one who has just moulted?

its not creamy its WHITE.. looking at the claws again it looks greenish but under the red lamp it looks white. if it moulted wouldn't there be the exo somewhere? in the burrow prob? he moves around fine. It used to be light in color and now its super white..

Look at it under white light -- everything looks weird under red light.
