PostSubject: Re: Keeping Roaches   Keeping Roaches Empty5/15/2008, 7:58 pm

If you're keeping them as feeders, I can move this to the feeder forum. Smile

Anywho, with any roaches, keep them warm and provide food, and you'll have more than you know what to do with before long. Both of these species are oviviviparous, meaning they give live birth, so you don't need to worry about a suitable substrate for ootheca to develop on.

Both of these species are also glass-climbers, however, so unless you have a fine mesh screen on your lid (first instar lobsters are tiny), spread a thin layer of vaseline over the top one to two inches of the inside of your tank.

Be VERY careful with lobster roaches. A few escaped in my house. Most died out but a few hundred are living in between my matresses. I know sounds gross but there useful there since I keep my roached outside it's conviniant to get a few when I'm being lazy

Yeah, I neglected to mention that lobsters are one of the few feeders where there's a risk of infestation if they escape -- HOWEVER, Eddy lives where it's nice and warm; I'm guessing room temperature in England is below their developmental threshold most of the time.

They dont leave the little niche that is my bed. It's actually the perfect temp for them but I feed them off to fast to produce many offspring I havent seen any nymphs.

How much do we like our inverts, you ask?

I'm going to post this as a link . . . Other admins, if you think this is pushing it, we can take them down (but these HAVE been posted on AB without issue).

That was kind of a random post . . .

Yeah, most of our roaches scurry noisily at night. Our hissers randomly hiss at each other, too. Razz

ok scorpio....*giggles* those pics clearly were not real because Scorpions and trarantulas are not that big.

Roaches are gross. I had one scare me and chase me when I was a little girl in Barbados for a holiday!
We kept kicking it over the balcony and it kept flying back in...super fast before we could shut the door!

Roaches are gross...crickets are gross. eugh. all feeders are gross! why cant they eat cereal hahaha!
