| i picked up an obt sling and an acanthoscurria brocklehursti sling. i couldnt resist the second one even though it wasnt on my wish list.it was so cheap and cute and the adult pics looked awesome.ill get pics up as soon as they are settled in from the move.
any info on the a.brocklehursti is much appreciated. i cant find much on the internet about their habits, behavior and preferences.i can find the temps, humidity, and that its a terrestial species but not about what it most likely calls home in the wild.like if it makes a webbed home under bushes at the edge of a desert, makes a web home above ground and goes to the ground at night, burrows etc..
thanks in advance | |

| i found some info that gets a lil more in depth.thanks.i want a gbb too.that was supposed to be my first but the obt was available and was next on the list so i guess it was meant to be.
The Acanthoscurria Brocklehursti is also known as a Giant Black and White. It is an extremely large species of spider known to reach leg spans of up to 9 inches. They are a terrestrial species that can be found predominantly Brazil. This is a terrestrial species of tarantula so it will not burrow the way some other tarantulas do. They are known for their aggressive eating habits and vibrant coloration. A. brocklehursti usually don't hide much and spend a lot of time out in the open exploring and so make impressive display Tarantulas.
A water bowl should be given when the tarantula reaches 2". Spiderlings will require light misting to drink droplets of water. A bottle cap is ideal for maintaining hydration while keeping the tarantula's booklungs out of the water. Prior to reaching 2" droplets of water on the side of its tank should be provided for hydration.
They are often confused with its close relative the A. Geniculata. This species is aggressive and especially large and is therefore not recommended for beginners.
Range: Brazil
Type: Terrestrial
Experience Level: Experienced
Diet: Spiderlings will eat pinhead crickets, and other small insects. Adults eat crickets, other large insects such as lobster roaches.
Size: 7 to 9 inches when fully grown.
Growth: Fast
Temperature: 80.6-86° Fahrenheit
Humidity: 70°-80° Mist cage regularly to maintain humidity.
Temperament: Aggressive.
Housing: Spiderlings can live in a small clear plastic deli-container with air holes poked with a pin. Use a small amount of substrate such as peat moss. Adults will live in a Large Terrestrial Cage, floor space is more important than height for this species.
They really do not like any direct light, so be sure to keep the enclosure in a well shaded place away from any direct light sources. A good retreat is required to make it feel more secure during molting. No decorations are really needed, but you can add a log, or cork bark. Always house tarantulas separately. Written By;

| Sounds like it has chosen that for a hide. Try to provide a different hide for it that is darker, and break down it's webs. It may decide that it's too much work to hang on to and move.
The "dead slings" are molts for sure.
Congrats on the new spiders. You are going to love them! | |

| Just watch the spider cant get out of the gaps in the lid. They'll let a fair sized spider out without slowing it down. I tape the lids up to stop the buggers escaping now. There must be dozens of them loose here. | |

| im home and the obt is still in the carrier.im thinking of taking some insect screen and hot glue to it. everything i put tape on just ruins it for future use.leaving all that sticky crap behind when i take it off. | |
