| Having been denied by both usps & ups Im kinda stuck w/Fedex... Looking to ship a Desert Hairy to North Carolina, the cost ranges from 4day home delivery $12.45 to over $60.00 for Overnight. Im curious how other ppl have shipped scorpions? Would a scorpion be ok spending 4days in a box? Any input? | |

| Well, from own experiences, here goes:
Yes, a scorpion will survive this trip if you take these precautions:
Get a cricket container, you know the plastic, transparant, square boxes with a locking lid. Put some uncoloured soft tissue in there. Wet it slightly to adhere to the sides and the bottom. The tissue should cover all plastic. Put a tissue in there too that is completely dry. Trash it so it becomes a ball of chaos. This is where the scorpion can hide under.
Put the scorpion in and put a tissue on the underside of the lid (top of the box) and lock it in place. Wrap it up with tape. Make sure it has breathing holes.
Now take a bigger box, fill it up with newspaper. Again fold it so it becomes springy. It will dampen the shocks the box inside will take from neglect of the postal services. They literally throw them around. Put newspaper on the bottom of the box, on the sides. Put your little enclosure in and stuff all with newspaper. Put some tiny holes in the outer box for ventilation. Do it where it does not catch the eye... Doesnt need to be much. Tape it up. Your scorpion can sit weeks in there before going to greener pastures.
If you are scared of very cold temperatures you can put the tiny box in a styrofoam box, which on its turn goes into a tiohtly fitting cardboard box..
Newspaper also isolates. If it gets cold, wrap a heat pack in there and separate it from the box so it doesnt overheat. Do this, with... yes, newspaper.
If you dont understand, ask me..
Here in Belgium, the postal services try to scam you by express deliveries. It is 30 euro a parcel. Arriving at the destination within 4 days of departure. Well, if you take the normal postal option it costs 12 euro and it arrives just as soon as it is also considered priority mail. I found out, after having spent lots of money on express deliveries.
I cannot say what shipping company is best down there, but I have seen Fedex come up regularly.
Take the cheapest option, if you packed them like I said, it is no problem. Never had an animal DOAed this way

| Well you don't generally tell USPS that you're shipping scorpions. If they ask just tell them it's a fragile computer part.
Most people use USPS. You just never honestly tell them what's in the box.

| I told customs here it held an ancient Babushka doll. True story. They asked me what the breathing holes were for. I said wood rot. | |

| Wood Rot? Brilliant. Lol My luck the box I ship would be the one they randomly pick to check,or itll get trashed in some machine, the Scorpion will escape & sting some innocent bystander that just happens to have a serious allergic reaction, goes into anaphylactic shock & dies.I'll get charged w/ Manslaughter.Hey, it could happen,Im cursed.... Manslaughter or FedEx....hmmmm.... | |
