I needed something better than the Richard Petty racing tape I was using to secure the top of
my emperor enclosure. Instead of driving down to Petsmart and buying the metal clips they sell,
I made some out of PVC pipe. They work pretty well and if you happen to have some PVC pipe
laying around, they're free.
I used 1/2 PVC pipe because that's what I had on hand. Larger clips can be fashioned from larger
diameter pipe. I simply cut 1/2 inch rings from the pipe, then made a lengthwise cut in each ring.
Hold the ring in boiling water with tweezers or a pair of pliers for 3 or 4 seconds and it will become
pliable enough to form into just about any shape you need. You can bend it with your bare hands
because it doesn't actually get very hot. You only have about 5 to 10 seconds to work with it
before it becomes stiff, but you can repeat the process if necessary.
Here's some photos of the finished clips.
