| Howdy, I'm planning on buying a boyfriend for my Emp this weekend since I am going to finally have it set up the way it's supposed to be. What should I do to make sure they get along? Thanks! | |

| When you introduce the mate, rearrange the enclosure to make it neutral territory. Then add them both and that is pretty much all there is to it. I say buy the male the same day as you plan on 'over-hauling' the enclosure. It saves you from doing it twice. Let's make sure it's a male too prevent future name modifications | |

HAHA! Yea, definitely going to be sure of the gender this time. Any ideas on names for this one? I'm usually good at names but kinda wanting to see what other people think. Sounds like a simple enough operation, and I was gonna add him the same time I changed the tank around. Thanks man!

| Well looks like Bedlam can type faster than I can! Any how, good info. If you plan on breeding be sure that there is a nice flat rock in there for the spermatophore fixing.
Good luck with with your future community!! Everything should be fine and I'm sure you'll be successful!

| Hey thanks for the tip about the rock Nate. I wouldn't have had a clue about that. How long does the female have to go between birth and mating? Thanks again all. | |

| Gestation is approximately 9 months to 12 months. Had no idea you wanted to breed, would have beat Streettrash to to that detail too. | |

| LOL. Yea, I knew about the length of gestation period but after she gives birth how long should you let her be until she breeds again? I would love to breed Emps, especially now that I knowso much more about them and their housing. | |

| I'm not quite sure about that actually. I do think that they are pretty much good to go after the scorplings leave, but you may want to hold off for a few weeks to be safe. Maybe just plan your mating rock into the enclosure as you design it, and place it in a few weeks after she's had a rest.
In the meantime, cruise by youtube and check out some scorpion porn! It's pretty interesting and you'll have a better idea of what to expect.

| Scorpion porn?? LOL! Only on this forum. Anywho, alright, I'll do that just to be sure. I saw what happened last time I rushed. I will plan that stone into the tank while I am reconstructing and I'll put it in in a couple weeks. Thanks again Nate! | |

| Yeah I don't know about that either, I say after she gives birth, just giver her a good month to rest. Then if you so choose, try again. | |

| I have two weeks left of college so I'll probably be breeding them in Wyoming this summer. Any reccomendations on transporting Emps across country without stressing them to death? | |

| If you can, since I've seen the enclosure. Keep them in their with their set up and just chuck it in the mobile and go. If not. I suppose Some moist paper towels and pack them good to avoid injury. | |

| They can go 6 months with no food or water. Yet this is super stressful and also up keep of the enclosure is going to be neglected so, just take the whole thing . | |

| +1 on the moist paper towel method. Any time I transport I put my scorps into those gladware tupperware things with some ventilation holes, and line everything with paper towels. Sometimes due to bumps in the road and what not burrows can collapse, and substrate can shift around.
There's also some good vids on how to properly pack scorpions so you might want to check those out as well.

Agreed, nice call Nate. I didn't think of that either. You worry about water at all when they are packed like that?

| No, Emps usually get the hydration from the humidity, thats what helps the molt. Damp paper towels will give them some water too but this shouldn't be a permanent method because like sponges, bacteria collects on paper towels. | |

| True. I'm only gonna be on the road for three to four days so if I just keep fresh towels in the container I should be good to go. | |

| Just make sure the paper towels are damp, not soggy, and you're good to go! Also you'll want to make sure the temperature is good. Not too hot or cold, though at this time of year too cold probably won't be a concern. Just make sure that your car doesn't turn into an oven when you stop for food and stuff. | |
