| after our first 'hunt' in sheerness, we decided uv lights would help. we ordered 3 torches. after reading a lot of articles, a reoccurring theme pops up, scorpions hate uv light, well not so much hate, it causes them long term health benefits is this true and does short term exposure when looking for scorpions have the same affect? thanks tom | |

we went at around 2200, we did only see 5 though, compared to other reports, this seems pretty poor

| Brief exposure for demos or hunting is fine. It's if you leave a UV lamp on 24/7 for months. | |

| Blacklight hunting for me here in Borneo has been very fruitful... I frequently encounter Liocheles australasiae and Heterometrus longimanus on the lower buttresses of trees. The best part about blacklight hunting is that you get to see how scorpions orientate themselves in the wild to ambush their prey. This helps provide many insights on how to design enclosures that will facilitate their natural behavior.
But these days, I rarely collect what I find. I've some sites where I visit on occasion to see if the same scorpion is there. I only collect if I find one in an unusual circumstance, or my friends tend to send me ones they find crawling into their houses....

| we would have struggled to find any without our blacklights (although we only had those annoying money reader type things and the batteries ran out after half an hour) now we have a proper torch which is awesome so cant wait to get to sheerness again and have a look, i found it amazing to see these tiny 3mm sized scorplings all sitting together in the cracks of the wall without a blacklight we would have never spotted those Alex i bet its awesome being able to go out and just look for things without actually taking anything, how many species do you have where you are? | |

| We were looking at going to S. Ireland. Not too far so family cant moan but no DWA needed and some good sea fishing to be done. Hmmm, might start looking into it again.. | |

Here in Borneo, I've successfully found those two species. Supposedly there are a number of bark scorpions species here... but my search for them have been unfruitful. Still trying.
