Grammostola rosea spiderlings...need some help please for arrival today.

My package is set to arrive today and in it are 2 of these spiders as freebies. I found http://www.petbugs.com/caresheets/G-rosea.html but is there anything besides what is listed, or a more suitable substrate, that I need to know? We picked up 2 small hinged plastic keepers (not kritter keepers) from Walmart, they look to be about 1gal in size.

I have searched as best as I could, but if I have to pick up potting soil I am going to have to go and get some really soon before everything arrives. I was hoping I could use some coco fiber or sand or mixture of the two as that is what I already have on hand, but not sure.

Hey fella, ok ill just right out a quick happy spiderling sheet for a Grammostola rosea

Coco fibre/coir is fine, as spiderlings forget keeping them dry, keep them mildly moist. They in turn will drink water from the substrate, do NOT mix with sand, just simple coco fibre.

They really dont need much room, so say the spiderlings are at 2cm leg span, a 3cm diameter pot will be fine, and double the leg span high, then fill it half way with substrate, for burrowing

Humidity as spiderlings, wouldnt hurt to keep on the high side, to ensure ease of survival, as they are more vunerable when spiderlings, it is important to forget the regular care sheet, and make it more moist, and add more humidity.

If they are small slings the gallon containers are way too large for a spider that small.The container should be about 2x their leg span because if they are in a container that is too large they will have problems finding their prey and be stressed out. The substrate should be dry as they like it and if it is too moist you will see them hanging out on the side of their enclosure.If they are very small they do not need a water dish but you can lightly mist the side of the enclosure and they will drink the water that way but remember they like it dry. You can feed them pinhead crickets if they are real small and can prekill the crickets and drop them in and the spider will find them from there. They are very easy to keep and are slow growers and fun to watch.You can provide them a hide and sometimes they will dig and make a home themselves but most all of the ones that i own use the hide provided.Best of luck with them.
