I'm venturing into new territory here so help me out folks.

I bought my little H. Arizonensis a 75W infrared bulb, and quickly realised that it will roast the little guy if I leave it on for too long. It's at an odd angle (my fault) so about two thirds of the tank are being baked, and the rest is hot but shaded, so he's spending his time there for the time being. Problem is, he's pretty active, and he likes his big rock, but that's in the baking section. I'd move it, but I'd tear down half of his burrows in the process. I've placed it slightly out of the path of the bulb, but I can't move it over the other side.

Back to the point. Thermostats within a reasonable price and not too complicated?

Don't know about the thermostats, but could you A) move the bulb higher up, or B) replace it with a lower wattage bulb?

Ive never really worried about a thermostat....Just get a bulb if they are a hot species, or get a pad if they are a room temperature species....simple as that lol

I agree with the others that its probably abit much for a scorpion, I'd try to regulate the heat another way but if you do decide to get one then the best for a bulb is a dimming stat. I'd recommend Habistat just because I've used them for years without trouble. Also you get a 5 year warranty. I'v found Amazon to be cheap.

Looks like I'm off to the pet shop to get a 50W bulb then.

Nice to know I won't have to shell out for a stat.

Thanks fellas.

Bought some new bulbs.

Got a lower wattage infrared bulb, got a couple of blue "Night Glo" ones aswell.

Quick question about those, are they harmful to my scorps? They have a very... Black light appearance about them.

The boxes didn't have any UV indications so I'm guessing no?

Some say that it doesnt effect them while others say it does. I mean black lights hurt my eyes so i dont understand why they wouldnt hurt theres so i stay away from them. But the Night glow ones dont put out the same UV as the black lights so they are ok for ur bugs.

Good to know, because I think the purple glow they give out is pretty cool and looks better than the infrared ones.

Got both of them set up now.

Those night-glo ones don't put out any appreciable amount of UV (nor does any incandescent bulb).

Do you mean that using ANY incandescent bulb would be just fine then??
