| Thanks man.
I sorted the heat and humidity problem by the way. Not the best solution mind you but It'll do temporarily. I've got the tank backed up against my radiator on medium heat, with the heat mat still stuck on the side, that's not putting out too much heat so there's a weird heat gradient in the tank.
The heat is holding steady at 87°F, and the humidity is hovering around 45-50%.

| I did dude, turns out there was moisture inside the gauge itself, and that's why I was getting funny readings.
I'm gonna buy a mini dehumidifier for when it starts getting moist in his tank.

| A mini dehumidifier sounds a little extreme to me. Just make sure you don't see any moisture in the tank, and you'll be just fine. I've never used humidity gauges and kept H. arizonensis just fine! I hope you enjoy your new guy and all the windy burrows he may dig for you | |

Nope, apart from the rain Manchester is pretty dry due to it being cold for mots of the year. My room is rather sauna like though, must be all the electrical things I have in here. - Canth wrote:

| Congrats on the new lil' guy! Just add, with my arid species I use an infrared bulb for the heat and a screen mesh top, this keeps the tank at a perfect humidity unless I spill water too many times filling the water dish. But even that I only fill 1x a week which may be more than needed but it dries up after a day anyways. This has been so consistent for me I don't bother with hygrometers on these tanks anymore. I only use them on my tropical set ups and their not so needed there either as long as I monitor the substrate. I'm thinking that the UK has similar climate as we do here in Wisconsin, maybe extra fog and a little more rain but close enough. Hope this helps. By the way, welcome to the forums, I haven't been on for a little while and don't recognize your name. This is a great place and there are a lot of people with a lot of knowledge and very willing to share it. | |

Haha, yeah, sorry about that mate. I was going crazy about getting a H. Spadix at the tiime, but they're incredibly difficult to get, so I settled for an Arizonensis, and Spider Shop was the only place I could get one. Now every pet shop I go in has them... Typical. My local has a couple of big'ns for £25 if you're willing to take a trip from Leeds. And an update on the humidity. I replaced the hygrometer with one that worked, and I baked the sand with a 75W heat lamp until the humidity dropped to about 25%, gave it a bit of a spray, now it generally stays at 45%. I mist it lightly when it drops. Now I don't have to have it backed up against the radiator. Put a 40W bulb in there as well. Keeps the heat reasonable. Definitely the most active of my scorpions, and definitely not afraid of gigantic prey. Fed him a morioworm and he went straight for it, ate the whole thing too. Impressive. But now I'm not feeding him until he loses weight.
