| Hi, I bought a unindentified scorpion today in a pet shop, I think is maybe a Nebo sp. but I'm not very good in ID for this kind of scorpions! Can you help me to identify it ? It was eating when I took the picture so, we cannot see the chelicerae... If you want me to take other pictures, I will do! I want to give the correct terrarium and substrate for my scorpion so I need an ID ! Thank you. Here is the Beast!

| On a another forum, sombody said Opisthacanthus asper or Opisthacanthus madagascariensis
What do you think about that?
Is there a way to find the real species?
What could be the better substrate for this scorpion?
Thanks for your help! | |

| not a clue what it is, but its eating so its fairly happy with how you are keeping it now. if you want to change the substrate then use cocofibre. | |

| It could be Opisthacanthus and I take back Iomachus because the chelae aren't elongated enough for one thing. | |

| i would go with Opisthacanthus madagascariensis that looks about right o.asper is darker and have dark legs and all
but ill look to see if i still have a id key for Opisthacanthus ill pm you this week sometime if i do (everything is on cd's new computer)
looks like your keeping it ok tho mayve a little more ventilation but that looks good

| Thanks !
I made a side with sand and another with peat moss. There is a lot of hiding places in the two sides. and the scorpion seems to prefer the sandy-side instead of the peat-side.

| i cant seem to find that id key i think Opisthacanthus species would be better fitting on this one for a few reasions
it looks like it may not be fully grown judging by the size of it compared to the cricket(s) but i cant be sure of this but thats how it looks from the pics anyway so if thats the case an id may be no good as 1 molt can change alot about a scorpion
also being that Opisthacanthus can vary in color i have to retract that last post im rusty on some species now days hahaha and you can get them confused easily
if its going to the dryer side it may be because you have it a bit too damp let it dry up a little bit and you should be good to go something like you would keep a C. vittatus
i will ask around to see if i can find the id key for you since i dont seem to have it anymore
