| Could I also get some help sexing my P. imperator? At the pet shop they said it was a female, but I was hoping to get a second opinion. | |

| I'm also going to go with male, but you can get a picture more reliable for sexing by putting the scorpion in a clear container and photographing from underneath. | |

| a very clear example of a male, with the oval operculum and large pectines and pectinical teeth, i have no doubt that is a male and the staff of the pet shop need glasses. | |

| Thanks. That's what I thought too, but I didn't know if I was missing something.
In any case, I picked up a female today and as soon as she was in the cage he started freaking out. It was fun to see some novel behavior out of him, but eventually I had to separate them so his new roomy would have time to adjust to her new environment without constant harassment.
I tried to tell him to play it cool, but it's been several months since he's even seen a female, so I can't say I don't sympathize.

| If they are both adult and you plan to keep them together you should take both out and rearrange the tank and maybe change the substrate , then introduce them together as you will have territorial issues adding one to anothers tank. In rearanging it and making the tank new to both scorpions you will reduce territorial issues thus ..... Hopefully.... Making there meeting a more equal one which should mean less fighting but you should expect some confrontation this is completely normal and should only result in a few *fights* however if they are going at each other constantly it's prly best to separate | |

| That sounds like good advice. So far no fighting though. My male keeps move near the female and vibrating his body. She moves away and he pursues and does another "love gyration." It seems a lot like that annoying guy at the club who won't take "No" for an answer.
They're both pretty mellow at the moment. If fighting becomes a problem I will definitely remove both of them and start from scratch, as you recommend.
Thanks. | |

That isn't the problem; the problem is that most pet stores will say whatever they can to make a sale, and don't know scorpion sexing from quantum physics. If you get a nervous person helping you get a scorpion at their store, they may be more than happy to let you do it yourself if you seem like you know what you're talking about.
