| To echo everyone else, sweet setup! Bix, we have some friends that got the giant slate slabs from a builder and they just broke them into smaller pieces with a hammer. Worked pretty well. Just be sure to wear some eye protection; you can launch shards pretty fast. | |

nice looking setup too. scorpion looks a bit dusty, they usually look a bit darker than that.

| World of Water is where I got my bits of slate as there's one local to me. Afterwards I went to look round a place called Pet Shed and there was loads of it just lying around outside. DOH!
But yeah I used no more nails just to make sure it's secure. And the cave bit was actually made by my wife with 2 bits of slate and a couple of pebbles as supporting columns. This is quite cool as the back was left open and the scorpion has started to dig out the back of the cave into a burrow.
Bit of a weird one though, he's started digging a burrow on the other side of the tank and in the middle too but just got down a few cm and has been sat with his head in the burrow all day with the rest of him out.
Reminded me of an ostrich with it's head in the sand lol. Any ideas what he's doing?

Bix, we have some friends that got the giant slate slabs from a builder and they just broke them into smaller pieces with a hammer. Worked pretty well. Just be sure to wear some eye protection; you can launch shards pretty fast. I +1 everything about this! I love the outcome of your set up! Looks very natural and very well thought out, I could stare at it for hours and that's when you know you did it right . Bex I second this too. To put it into US perspective pet stores around me will charge like $8 per small piece of slate rock. I went to Home Depot and in their gardening/landscaping department found packages of the same slate rock and they were $8 a package bur for like 8 very large pieces. I took a finish hammer (really any kind will do) and just placed them either the driveway or even the floor in the kitchen on a piece of cardboard (I have done both) and tapped them with the edge of the hammer head. Get some extras as it is hard to get them to break exactly the way you want but at that price you can get a lot extra This will save you a ton of $$$ or Euros or whatever I guess I could put it this way for $8 at a builder/or landscape type place whatever you have near you you'd spend almost $80. That's of course reflecting prices I have scoped out in pet stores and lawn and garden centers here In Wisconsin, US Did I mention how awesome this set up turned out I might have to get a Desert hairy sometime now!
