| Today a gut from Mexico was telling me of this scorpion they have native there known as a Durango about 4 inches long and a reddish color. I'm not sure where about in Mexico this scorpion is regain at. All i know is he said he as some friends coming up and he'll see about them bringing me a few if i am willing to help him to set up his saltwater tank since he kno0ws nothing about saltwater setups.
Have anyone ever heard of this scorpion before and may know what specie is.
thanks mark

| SystematicsFamily: Buthidae C.L. Koch, 1837. Genus: Centruroides Marx, 1889. Group: Rayado Hoffmann, 1932. Subgroup: suffusus- infamatus Gonzlez-Santilln, 2001. MorphologyA scorpion of medium size reaching 2" to 3" in length. The coloring of the body is yellow although from time to time can be a reddish-brown. Just like the C. vittatus, this scorpion has 2 longitudinal bands of dark pigmentation as well as 3 longitudinal lines of lighter pigmentation that often take on the same orange bands as C. vittatus. The best form of differentiating C. suffusus is where C. vittatus has the ocular triangle, C. suffusus has more of a bandits mask that is wide and spreads longitudinally across the cephalothorax (fig. 2). As with most species of the Centruroides genus sexual identification is as simple as looking at the tail; in the males the tail is long and slender and the females have a shorter wider tail (fig. 1). The males have 20 to 24 pectines, while the females have from 21 to 26. The number of pectines varies, but is common to these numbers. The subaculear tooth near the base of the telson is short and underdeveloped. Fig. 1 - R-male L-female Fig. 2 Mating and ReproductionLittle it is known on the reproductive biology of this species, due to the lack of studies. Common to other Centruroides species, partruition is often observed during rains in the wild. Life CycleThis species is not very well documented so not much is known about it's life cycle. Generically speaking, this species is treated as any other Centruroides and the consensus is 5-7 instars to maturity with males and females commonly reaching sexual maturity at different instars. They are thought to live from 2 to 9 years. HabitatC. suffusus is an abundant and very common species in the Durango and Nayarit areas. As with most Centruroides, this species can be found everywhere where it can seek refuge (fig. 3). This species is a level 4 on the hobby toxin scale due to the large amount of cases of scorpionism - it is considered to be one of the more toxic in the country. Fig. 3 DistributionIts area of distribution extends in states of Sinaloa, Nayarit and Durango. Fig. 4 is a map of the distribution of this species. Fig 4 this sheet has been translated and edited from it's original text found HERE by Rasputin Sane | |
