| Hi....well we just recieved our new scorpion through the post (postman chucked it about a bit and nearly dropped it!!!!) it wasnt very clearly labeled as a live specimen very small label with very small writing so he prly had no idea. It seems fine though and was happily scurrying around the temp housing ive put it in, i managed to get some pics for sexing but they are not very good im afraid, im a noob and really dont know so would be very grateful of your opinions please. will try and get some better pics up soon.

| im going to say female but im only 75% sure of that you will need a clearer photo to get a definate answer. Im not brilliant at telling the sex of scorps so wait for binksy or scorpio to comment | |

| I'm leaning towards male only cause the photo is a tad blurry. The Opereculum seems to not be all that heart shaped nor come to a point from what i can see so im a tad lost. | |

| I'm gonna say it looks like a female, but need a clearer shot to be sure.
Do you have a large glass that you could put it in? If so, that might decrease the bluriness.

| Errr..We have put them both in the new enclosure at the same time, They both threw a little wobbley and went for each other, Lasted a min or so, then sat in the same hide for about 10 - 15 mins, The Scorpion in Question above, we shall call Scorp B, decided to run about the enclosure, now the male is coming out, juddering like an old pooing dog lol, and going and fighting with the other one, even using his stinger, I have had a quick look at it seems to be related to mating, but we have only just put them in together.
Is it a mating thing? in which case Scorp B is female, or is it a showing off thing to another male? so Scorp B will be male?
Hope that all makes sense!?!?

| looks female to me...but i also had to copy the pics to my hard drive and use a photo viewer to zoom in...
it looks like the bottom of the genital operculum has a point like the shape of a heart... a clearer pic would make me more confident in the answer..
p.s. i deleted your pics off my hard drive after looking at them =)

| i find it so funny when the do that even more lethal scorpions do it with the potential to kill you, but they wont sit there and sting you if they feel threatend they just scutter back in to their hide at about a hundred miles an hour lol. | |

| Haha. I remember when mine did her first "lunge". I had left a cricket in there for an hour or so, then assumed she ate it (as I couldn't find it for the life of me).
I saw her poking out in the "feed me" pose, so I'm thinking. Alright, while she's settled in for awhile in that hide, I can change her water (on the other side).
The lunge towards the hidden cricket scared me bad enough, I whipped my hand out of my tank...
right into my cricket box...
spent the next hour laughing at my fear and picking crickets out of my carpet.

| its amazing how quickly the can grab them. i remember when a cricket jumped past my scorp and he grabbed it in mid air.
i hate it when my crickets escape even though thier silent ones they make noise all the way through the night until i find them.

Their sticky/hooked legs do make them a bit of a pain, I think they just like to taunt the scorps lol
