noob in need of some tips

just got my 1st scorp {Heterometrus petersii} can any1 give me sum tips about ageing and sexing and general keeping of them cheers

Nice to see an other Scot on here. I myself have just delved into Scorpion keeping and recently got an "Asian Forest" too. Just out of intrest, did you purchase it from Strictly Exotics?

Interms of Sexing, This can be done if taken from below (getting a good shot at the Pectines), a picture from above and of the pinsir helps too. Here's a thread of mine, when finguring sex and species;

Interms of care and husbandry. A nice deep substrate conisting of Coco-Fibre, I use Slate, which they interm burrow themselves under. I have a heatmat on the side to prevent the substrate drying out.

It is difficult to tell the age of a scorp because they all grow at different rates dependent on individuality, conditions and the availability of food.

However it is often possible to tell what instar it is, but this isn't always the case. The one thing that we can almost certainly do with a lot of species, is see whether it is a juvenile, sub-adult or an adult.

thnks guys a think mine is a male but a maybe wrong a checkd ur link scott and going by tht it looks lyk a male.. aye thts where a got it.. where u from scott... wht kind of pics o it do u need 2 tell if its a juve, sub or a adult binksyboy

Just an overall shot should do, possibly with something next to it for a size comparison.

I'm at North Fife, but often go to Strictly for the livestock side of things. But interms of your Scorpion, fire some better quality photo's up.

av just had a closer look at ma scorp 4 sexing and it goes in a v shape... does this mean its no reached maturity yet ?????

What Goes in a V Shape Shawn? The Pectines? If so, they are all V shaped, however the males have longer Pectines usually. From the picture it looks like a Sub-Adult Male, I'm saying sub-adult as my two were classed as Sub-Adult, and I'm saying male due to the bulky pinsirs, Thats just a geuss though mate.
