| I'm weird when it comes to feeding. My scorp hides deep in his cave most of the time then for a while at night he comes to the entrance waiting for bugs. I throw a cricket in front of him and if he misses he'll only come half way out in an attempt to get it so if the cricket gets too far away(I have a 10 gallon) I pick it back up and throw it in front again. It usually ends up crawling into my scorps cave(I have two hides) where he chows down. I don't like leaving a cricket in overnight because I don't want cricket babies.
Anyway, I just got a clamp heat lamp and when I see my scorp waiting for food I have to turn off the lamp, take it off the screen, then take off the screen. By then he's usually spooked and goes back into hiding. If I didn't use a screen he wouldn't spook so easy and I could feed him easy as pie. So the question is, do I need a screen? I live alone so I don't have to worry about youngsters getting in there or anything. Thanks in advance, sorry about all the threads.

| you dont NEEED it. lol you could have it open if you want as long as there is nothing he can climb up and get out and the temperature/humidity stay decent. | |

| There's no way he can get out. Here's my set up. The cave on the right has been replaced with the exact same one as on the left. The skull's out too. | |

| Not always about whether or not he can get out, but what can get in. | |

| I'm aware this thread is a few weeks old, but I'd like to point out that if the distance between a scorp's telson and its pinchers when fully stretched out is equal to or greater than the shortest distance between the substrate and the tank rim, they CAN get out. | |

| I walked into my room the other night, hit my light, and found my cat on top of my communal tank, sitting on the screen and watching my scorpions wonder around.
I've never been happier to have a screen.

I've never been happier to have a screen. I came back from a vacation, to find one of our stupid, useless cats had gotten into my baby corn snakes tank, and ate it. Ive never been less happy about cats...
