Hey,

im new to this forum, i just found it recently and found your comments on breeding the hadogenes paucidens very helpful.
Now i registered because i have a question.
I just changed the substrate (coco fiber) in my scorpions tank. Since then (i think its about three days) she's been amazingly lively. She's out most of te afternoon and night. She was always moving very slow but these days she moves fast, climbs on and hangs from the plastic lock (with her tail only slightly touching the ground). And today afternoon i found her inside her water tank. She was bathing???!!!
Did something like that ever happen to any of you? Is she just surprised because of the new environment? Is she exploring? Im confused, I dont know if this is a good sign or a bad sign (is she in panic or satisfied?)?

I would be very happy if anyone could reply ...

Kaja

Hi and welcome!

Hadogenes Paucidens requires an arid /semi arid environment.
It does not require high humidity.
It's behavior can be explained by the sudden change in its climate.

I use a mix of regular sand and a bit of fine gravel.
You can mix a bit of dry coco fiber with it to boot.

Also very important are rock crevices, the narrower the better. Mine squishes herself in the smallest of cracks.

I know this is an old thread, so excuse me for replying, but I just wanted to mention that I seem to have bought a captive bred specimen, which appears to be instar 3/4/5. It's about 10 cm (4 inches) long... so that means there are some people out there that are successfully breeding and raising this species. Reading this thread inspired me to try it within a few years Smile

Maybe. But not many if there are, unfortunately. I think this species is being exploited by the pet trade. Too many are taken from the wild, kept incorrectly by inexperienced keepers, and die prematurely. They don't seem to be particularly popular with hobbyist keepers for some reason, meaning you rarely see CB available, which is a shame. Best of luck to you if you do try to breed this species.

The breeder where I got mine said that their pre-molting phase was very frustratingly long. He said he experienced a sling took 9 months to shift from 3i to 4i which makes a small to big scale breeding of new adults virtually unfruitful but rewarding if you have the patience
