| Congrads on the scorpions =)
I just got mine two weeks ago and i really did learn a lot. lol
Just make sure they got hiding places/water/enough depth to burrow....and let them be. Its not the most amusing pet..if pet at all, but sometimes they come out and do stuff
like yesterday I was lucky to see my guy come out and snatch a cricket and eat him ( first time i saw him eat in 2 weeks, i even brought food right to him and he wouldn't take it )

| Emperors staying in their hides is completely normal. They are often given the name "Pet - holes".
Also, as what has been said, they won't be overly active. You can usually see them out and about at night time but this is not always the case.
As for the texas yellow, I think you mean Hadrurus Arizonensis? (Desert Hairy scorpion)

| Yea typically mine come out around 2-3 in the morning. Im hardly awake to see it. and if you have a small burrow and a black light, you may be able to see one or 2 of them just sitting at the mouth of the hole waiting for something to come wandering into its house. | |

NO they are not safe to use A LOT. Black light=UV=Ultraviolet=Bad! I black light, a lot. But I don't look directly at the light ever. Even then, it's probably not good for me, and neither would it be for you or your scorp. They can't see real red light. And it will produce some heat. Black light will confuse them and mess up their eyes and/or dna (I think). Anyway, it's not good. I only use my BL to find them, sometimes take photos, and every blue moon, do a quick night check.

| Scorpions are negatively phototactic, meaning they don't like certain types of light. In the case of scorpions, they don't like any light apart from infra red because they can't see it. | |

| Do they make infra red heating lights? Or should I just get a pad for the side of the tank? | |

| You can do either. Best bet by consensus over different boards seems to be heat pad on SIDE of tank. It will be cheaper over the short and long run as well. | |

| Awesome thx. I keep my room pretty warm around 70 71 degrees. I keep my computer running to help maintain temps until I get a pad. | |

| If that's your low, then you will be fine. If you room drops below 65* at night, I would try and hurry as best as you can. Heat pads can be had at wally world for about $10+ I think. you're welcome | |

| Make sure that the mat suits your enclosure. Most will say suited for glass enclosures but some people buy those ones and stick on their plastic ones and then as a result, don't reach sufficient temperatures. | |
