wot are those bit's hanging of the bottom of my emp

Hiya all

can somebody plz tell me wot are those wing like things hanging from the bottom of my emp is this how you tell is its a he/she ??????????

can you also explain wot gravid is plz as i see it mentioned a lot
and why have some emp scorpion's got white lines on them

sorri to sound a bit stupid but i find its the easiest way to find out

The wing like structures are called "pectines" and theyre sensory organs used to detect chemical stimulants (pheremones) and also the suitability of the substrate for placement of a spermatophore (sperm packet) during mating.

As for sexing emperors, the male usually has longer and wider pectines with more "teeth" on them than the female and the genital operculum, the small plate in the middle of the pectines is oval shaped in the male and more heart shaped in a female

Gravid just means pregnant and what do u mean by white lines? do mean lines running in between the plates on the back running from left to right or the scorp? if so thats just their intersegmental membrane, if thats no what u mean then i have no idea.

the white bits i mean run in between the plates of the scorpion there is also a lot of white on the underside too
my emp is all black other than a little deep red bit on the bulb on its tail ,,, which i believe turns this colour wen it becomes mature .... plz correct me if im wrong..........

there is no major reason to no this i'm just curious but if any ony could let me no it wud be appriciated

That's why they made me take a typing class in high school

Yeah its amazing how useless most of the stuff you do in school is eh for example I'm a joiner (Carpenter) and ill never need biology or geography or even english foor that matter cause we alll talk rubbish and swear a lot so theres no english gettin spoken there :P

it's sad i no if only we all had hind sight at school and just did the lessons we liked we could all have a levels and look dead good hahaha the only thing i use from school is math how sad out of all the lessons i took what a waste of time.....

i dont use anything cause all i ever needed was woodwork and it was such ab asic course it actually didnt teach me anythin lol so i actually use nothing at all from school...literally

getting back onto the subject of my emp she dosn't show her self much is this normal do they lay up for long periods

aye they usually spend all day in their burrows or under their hides and come out at night if anything so u hardly see them, thats why people usually call emperors "Pet Holes"

yeh i can believe it she just lives under her hide she does come out for he food though which i suppose is better than nothing at all, cheers for your help really appreciate it.

That's why emps are commonly referred to as "pet holes."
