Lethal Mesobuthus Empty
PostSubject: Lethal Mesobuthus   Lethal Mesobuthus Empty11/11/2009, 10:08 am

Hey...I have just read the info regarding Scorpion Envenomation on this page http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/168230-overview ..............
Quote :
The lethal members of the Buthidae family include the genera of Buthus, Parabuthus, Mesobuthus, Tityus, Leiurus, Androctonus, and Centruroides.
I'm just wondering how the Mesobuthus sp. turned up to be lethal Shocked
Hoping someone here have a clue Question

I havent found any reliable info thats should indicate that Mesobuthus sp. should be deadly.
Are there anyone who have heard about a Mesobuthus sp. killing a human or maybe have some reliable papers thats indicates that Question

I did a research project/presentation on the development of scorpion antivenom and nowhere did I see the Mesobuthus sp. being mentioned.

Strange...I couldn't find any LD50 value for any Mesobuthus sp. other than Mesobuthus eupeus LD50 1.45 mg/kg (I wouldn't call that lethal) and I would think (if there isn't any report of people got stung and died) that it's necessary to know the LD50 value to conclude that Mesobuthus sp. could be lethal.
It's funny, by looking at the Authors of this publicity, that they do make mistakes like that scratch

Thanks for reply MissAdema

Well Mesobuthus tamulus was changed into Hottentotta tamulus that might have had something to do with it, just a guess
