HI, I am currently thinking about adding a new scorpion to the family, but I am having a hard time deciding. First, I am thinking mostly of a desertic, dry enviroment specie. It doesn't need to be communal, it will be kept alone. I'm thinking about and Androctonus Australis, I find their massive tail so impressive, but I find that they are a little too common. I got a list of available species to choose from. Tell me what you think

If I were to choose a desert species, these would be my picks:

Androctonus Australis

I guess it's the thickness of the tail that makes them so desirable by many.

Hadrurus arizonensis

Apparently these are even easier to keep than a G. rosea, since you can actually skip the water dish.

Parabuthus transvaalicus

Maybe it's the color that makes them a "must get" species ?

Leiurus quinquestriatus

I'm still not sure about this one... definitely wouldn't want to be stung by accident.

Scorpio maurus

From what I've been reading, these require a bit of moisture compared to other desert scorps.

Regardless.... I won't be getting a desert species until next spring or summer. I'd rather get the chance to get really comfy with my emp for the time being.

H. arizonensis are readily available, tend to be cheap, and you're not going to wish your arm was in a fiery inferno if you get stung. They're also a lot less defensive in my experience.

I already have an Hadrurus Arizonensis, and I like it alot, he's the one making me go for a desert specie actually. I wish Androctonus Crassicauda was in the list. Leuirus scares me a bit, I never got stung yet, and might not be soon, I don't fool around, but accidents happen...

I saw one in a pet store a week or so ago for $30 >_<

I'd go with the LQ if you think you're ready for it. They have beautiful coloration and, from my exp., are not aggressive most of the time Smile
