| Seconded what Thaedion said (just like in my message ). I have a female who is simply MASSIVE -- unfortunately, all her babies died. I managed to get a few of Thaedion's, so hopefully we'll be able to breed this species. H. laoticus is pretty small as far as hets go. | |

| H. swammerdami is indeed gargantuan, but it's very rare that you find it in the hobby. Most of the imports that I'm aware of are from SE Asia, hence the large number of H. spinifer. My H. longimanus came from Malaysia. | |

| Yes, but i was asking just about spinifer and longimanus. So wich one of this two species grows bigger ? Or are they the same size? is p. imperator much bigger than them? | |

| Longimanus -- that's the one featured in the picture above, and mine is larger than my emps. | |

| I think some of these het species get bigger than most people think. Selective breeding with these guys are actually giving us smaller scorps as I understand. -Eddy | |

| Wait -- do people breed for larger scorps and it backfires, or are people actually breeding for smaller scorps? | |

| Well my theory is that although people are breeding for larger sizes the only really large ones are the ones that come from the wild because it's an advantagious trait. Meaning the smaller ones get killed off but in the hobby people care more about quantity than quality so we are getting a lot of smaller bugs that would die naturally in the wild. -Eddy | |

| I see . . . interesting thought. So the best tactic would be to breed only the largest offspring, and keep smaller specimens isolated? | |

| yeah and I'm sure there are some people doing it already but it'll be a while before people get more into selective breeding large scorps. -Eddy | |

| I think that food and temps got bigger effect on size than genetics. The more you feed your scorps with diverse food(i dont meen overfeeding) and keep them on high(optimun) temps the bigger they will get. I have 5 juvenile spinifers and adult emp female. The mother of my spinifers was bigger than my emp and emp of a guy that i got them from, but that doesnt mean that they will be bigger. I noticed that 4 of them eat regulari, only one seems to be on diet. I got them all the same size and now they have molted and 4 of them who eat more were bigger and the scorp on diet is much smaler. PS: Sorry my english isnt perfec,i know..... | |

| well lets take into account that a lot of emps are found near termite hills. So they are feeding on termites rather than roaches or crickets, that could be a possibility. But in captivity they are pretty much given an endless supply of food. That should lead to bigger emps if food quantity had anything to do with it. But let's not throw out the idea of "what" they eat. That is also an important factor. -Eddy p.s your english is fine. | |

| Well i ques there are many factors that effect the size of our scorps...along with food,temps,genetics...etc. | |
