| Well, since I got my C.Vittatus in April I have seen them all eat, EXCEPT for the skinny elongated male. I thought he wasn't eating at first until last week and today that I saw him eat left over parts the others had left.
So, can scorpions be scavengers? He is skittish and is the only male, is that something to do with it? Or is it just individual behavior?

| Ive read that sometimes, like Imperials will dig and hunt for remains as well as catch their own prey. Its not always live prey will come their way so why wouldnt scorpions hunt and dig and find scraps? xxxx | |

| Well, just wondering how they sense them. I thought they just felt movements.
Does that mean they can differentiate scents to find food and not only rely on their trichobothria(I know they excrete pheromones)?

| scorpions have been know to scavange. I think it has nothing to do with "sensing" it. I once had a tug-o-war with my P.imp with a pecil and he tried eating it. Once my brother left a G.I joe toy in there and he picked it up and tried eating it. | |

also some people i have known even placed raw meat in there scorpion's enclosure, and they were eating the raw meat.
I have seen myself in my C. hentzi communal tank were there has been many of times a few of the hentzi wwas eating left over parts.

| maybe they go by heat. But I think there is still a lot we dont know about scorpions! I always thought it was the movement but if that was the case...why do they find remains? Sometimes draws them to it xxxx | |

| they eat dead crickets right as most of u know so sensing movements aren't the reason. | |

| I didn't know that either -- but I'd figure the pectines would at least play some role in sensing prey. | |

| I think they hunt their prey though feeling the vibrations and such, but I also think they can actually "see" the form of unmoving food. But its just an idea...who knows eh xxxx | |

| scorpions can, just like most animals, identify most food items. with exception to Eddy's P. imp of course. | |
