| I went and got my emp today and found out the pet store knows absolutely nothing about scorps he's about a year old they had no hide for him I counted up to 25 live cricets in his tank and a dozen dead ones one inch of wood chips I was soooooo angry that he had been there for soo long in these conditions. He now has NO crickets in his habitat six inches of eco-earth a water dish and a hide. Damn pet store arghhhh makes me want to go work there. | |

| They generally have set requirements from corporate about how they have to house animals. You should post a store review though. | |

| ^I've never heard that.
Most pet stores don't know squat -- at least they didn't have him on sand. Your best bet would probably be to calmly point out to the store people that this particular species is found in X habitat and thus does best in Y conditions.
It's worth a shot -- that got one of the local places to at least get their emps off of sand and they took the sponge out of the water dish. | |

| Sometimes the shops dont bother listening to you, like when i worked at a pet shop i told them a hundred time to stop using sponges on their Ts and they never listened, when i got sacked and came back a month later i found they had forest scorps on completely dry substrate with no water in their dishes and tons of crixs runnin about the tanks and hte Ts STILL had sponges! i told them the scorps substrate was too dry and all they did was mist it a wee bit, i came back the next day and it was bone dry again. The point im making is you cant always rely on the pet shops changin their ways, you could try gettin the animal welfare folk on them | |

| Well they are the only shop in my city that supply scorps I've just bought every one they have had this year so I know none have suffered too bad. Your right though I tried telling them before I bought my P.cav they need to give him tropical substrete at least 4-6 inches and they didn't listen. I'll just continue buying every scorp they get till my fiance loses her mind. | |

| Wow sounds like pet shop horrors to me. I got mine at a Petco, the guy working there had no clue how to take care of them. First, the hydrometer in the tank was broken, didn't even have a needle on it to check the percentage. As the same for most of you, I witnessed more crickets than emperors in the tank, when they gave me a care-sheet saying not to leave crickets in the tank. Substrate was less than 4 inches, contradicting to what the care-sheet said as well, printed from the store. Hah, the best part was, the guy did not even know how to spell "Emperor". | |

| At least they made an effort on the hydro meter "the pet store" which is what this place is called can't even spend the extra cash to put one in the tank. When you mention ANYTHING to the manager she acts as if you just called her an idiot and gets all insulted. | |

| I just don't understand... all the supplies are there. They tried to sell me a 50$ lamp and 40$ bulb and yet they can't take a 5$ hydrometer off a shelf and put it in the tank that's less than 10ft away. Apathy. | |

| I think they do it so when ppl buy the whole set up they have to spend the extra money to get the proper supplies. | |

| Yep, it's sad when they under-care for them at the store. Too bad for them I did the homework and have this place to thank and Judd is doing awesome. I'm just having trouble with the humidity which I will try to solve with a false bottom and coconut fiber and of course take notes. | |

| Sometimes pet stores will put minimal substrate and no hide just to show off the animal. | |

| I'd rather have a healthy scorpion instead of the one that looks best under a less than par heating bulb. | |

| yeah if only they used proper substrate. Honestly someone on here told me to put plastic wrap over 2/3 of the tank top and pour some water on the substrate to keep humidity till I got a false bottom and it works really good. | |
