B. Jacksoni Molting/Instar Information Empty
PostSubject: B. Jacksoni Molting/Instar Information   B. Jacksoni Molting/Instar Information Empty1/28/2009, 11:42 pm

I just got the details on my new scorpion order that was sent out today.

It will be 11 babies! They added an extra...very cool.

Will be B. Jacksoni from 4 different pairings

2 Chocolate morphs at 3i about 2 weeks older than the others
3 Chocolate morphs at 3i born sometime late November/early Dec.
3 Red morphs at 3i born sometime late November/early Dec.
3 Red morphs at 3i born sometime late November/early Dec.

Apparently the last molt was 3 to 4 weeks ago.

Any information or links on how B. Jacksoni tend to molt would be greatly appreciated. I wish I had exact dates of birth and molts, but no luck. I know the temperature they are kept at and feeding effects the rate they molt and it is not an exact science. Just wondering if each molt generally occurs monthly...or if the time between molts increases much as they reach 4i...5i...and 6i for females. Thanks guys...I am sooo excited!!! I'm a day...2 at the most from being back into the hobby...weeeee!!!

The gap increases, but I couldn't tell you the rates.

Ok...thanks. I have read conflicting reviews online. Some say 6 months to reach adult...others report a year. I will keep searching. From what I have found it seems that it is fairly safe to house them communally once they reach 4i which would be after their next molt. BTW...is the correct spelling molt or moult...or does it matter?
Any insight or personal stories of experience with these would be great.

Moult = UK spelling, molt = US spelling.

Trying to see if I can remember . . . I got a mix of 2I and 3I in May of 2007, my first male matured at the end of August, and my first female matured in February. So yeah, six months for a male, and a year for a female might be a good rough estimate.

I wouldn't put them together until they were 5I if I were you. Males and females are about the same size at 5I but the males will have their bulbous chela noticeable; females are quite a bit larger than males when they hit 6I.

Check out my gallery (linked in sig) for pics.

Great...thanks! I will wait then. The email said they shipped 2 in several of the containers...that should be interesting. I will wait until 5i to put them together. Thanks for the pics...I have some of those saved in my favorites from the links you sent before. Very helpful.
