Question about my new emperor (black scorpion)

Just a typical emperor scorpion, I picked the biggest one out at the pet store I thought it was the coolest.
But curious of its sex, and if its big because he's a badass or if its pregnant?
Probly cant tell from the pictures but hey, worth a post.


Underside, I dont know enough to tell dif between male an female.
Ive got the idea but nothin to compare to =/

I'd say those pectines look like a male too, imo. Does look fat though.

Yah, I was thinkin that it was male to, but he was really fat so I thought maybe a manly female thats pregnant, well hoping
Sure is big though, never seen one as big as him.

you have a female there. could be gravid, or just well fed. time will tell.

I can't believe we got three votes for male . . . that's the most clearly female-looking emp I've seen in a long time.

See how the operculum points towards the tail instead of being oval? That's a better indicator that it's a female than the pectines alone (which are pretty small in this one).

So, definitely FEMALE.

Hugely fat + wild-caught = probably gravid.

it seems most W/C mature female Emps are gravid.

i think some people need to revise!
i would bet thats gravid or have you been over-feeding it?

No, havent had her for to long but I normally feed once or twice a week.
I doubt the store overfed her. But who knows she coulda just been a bully and ate everything. At this point only time will tell I spose. Wish I could do like an ultrasound or somethin
