| OK, noobie question but I gotta ask. I have a 20g tall tank and I wanted to know how many emps I should keep in it. I was thinking 2 or three. Also, is having male and female in the same tank okay? btw - I know I will need more hides than scorps | |

| i have 4 adult P.Imps in a twenty tall, 3 females and one male, they all hide in the same burrow, there surprisingly communal, the first few moments there's a dominance scuffle, but then there fine. DO NOT WORRY IF THERE TAILS BECOME ACTIVE DURING THAT SCUFFLE. there immune to the own species venom. as long as there isn't a hard, flat surface there is no breeding between the two. unless thats what you want. I myself encourage that! breed them as much as you can! contribute to the hobby with all those cute little guys. ahhh scorplings are too cute! | |

| I keep three emps in a 10 gallon and they all seem to be pretty comfortable with it. All three hides are never taken up at any point, as they usually stick together. I'd say that you could fit 5-6 adults in there. It's all in how you arrange it, too. The hide size; water dish size; floor space; plants and decor. I have my 10 gallon setup horizontally now that goes as following (from left to right): hide, water dish/plant, hide, hide. They're all doing fine. They really love the coconut hide! Good luck | |

| From all the great replies I do suppose I'll be getting at least three...maybe five. I was planning on breeding...I already breed my Aussie finches. Keeps the strain off of the wild guys. | |

| Breeding scorps is great. it's the best way you can expand the hobby and get more C/B specimens into the stores, rather than W/C. | |

| One more thing...should I keep more female than male? I know some fish you want to have at least a 2:1 ratio with more females for the males but does this also apply to emps? | |

| nope, you can keep them either way.
allthough you may have a higher chance of getting kids with just one male... not sure..
oh, and if you want them to mate you may as well put a small flat surface in, like a piece of slate or wood. this will help him in his manly quest lol.

| Good. males need a flat surface during the mating ritual to plant their spermataphore. | |

I was planning on breeding...I already breed my Aussie finches. Keeps the strain off of the wild guys. Three will definitely, without a doubt, live comfortably in a 20 high. Just make sure how you arrange the decor and living items. I make it so that they don't have to walk in a water dish to get to their hide(s), or climb a plant, et cetera If you're up to it, you can buy a coconut at the grocery store, cut it in half, gut it, then cut a door in it and use it for a hide. Scorps and T's seem to LOVE them for some reason. Maybe because it's pretty much dark all around it. Right now my smaller emp is chillin' on top of the bigger one in the hide. Kinda cute actually

| Hahaha, cute in a buggy way. I think we sell some coconut hides at the store, if not I'll have to break out the table saw! | |

| It's more fun and cost-effective (usually) to make them yourself. You can make two hides out of a single coconut rather than buying two coconut hides at a pet shop, which are probably around $4 a piece. | |

| And it provides a tasty treat for your self and maybe your birds lol. BTW I put 5 (3 adults) on one 10 gallon tank with no losses and this was a double species tank. 3. P. imps, 2. H spinefers. | |

| Ha, as you mentioned pet store. Not sand or orchid bark for the substrate. Use coco fibre/plantation soil/eco earth (same product) It is in a block form and when in water expands to make like a...soil! its great! Soak it, pack it into the tank...press press it down and on the top layer I make it a bit looser so they can dig into it nice and easy to make their burrows

| If you're in a pet store, you should have your superiors designate you the Invertebrate Authority -- make sure everyone is housed properly and that customers know how to take care of them. But yes, five could comfortably go in a 20. The usual cap for a 10-gallon is three. | |

Wholesale prices are always awesome!! As most-everyone knows here, my parents used to own a pet store back in the day and we had a lot of pets throughout the years... Never had any birds, though. I want a stinky ferret

| Yeah...I got the Eco-bricks already and the emps at the store are kept on it as well. It's not as deep as is should be but it's better than being on sand and it is kinda had for sell a hole. It's funny, I'm pretty much an Avian expert but in the months that I have been researching scorps I have gotten to know more about the than the herp guy at the store so he has been sending his scorp people over to me and I have been telling them what all they need to set them up the right way. When I told him the other day how many of each sex I wanted he was like "Is there a way to tell?" and after I told him he told me he was sending everyone to me that want the scorps. Not to say he doesn't know anything about the scorps, but he is more of a T and reptile guy. | |
