Just wondered if you know of any mantids that look like this, its the nicest looking one iv found, and would therefore like to look into getting one

I'm not sure how they work as far as colorations, but some look like death. I'm not sure if they molt into those colors or what.

I don't think that is the same. Probably an idolmantis or something. I've done some searching for them and I haven't seen that pic or anything like it yet.

I can only ID a few species, despite my screen name.

Those few are the European and Chinese mantids, as well as the small handful of exotics I've owned (H. grandis, P. whalbergii, H. coronatus, and whatever the African budwing is called).

where do you even get this ive seen a few where i live there green my brother had one that was like foot long it was huge but the ones i see are usealy like 3-4 inchs id would nice to have one of these but from othe post ive they dont live long

I find the existence of a six inch mantis almost impossible to believe without photographic evidence.

The European mantids I find around here top out at 2.5" but everyone ALWAYS exaggerates. "I swear it was six inches!!" they tell me. Rolling Eyes

it is the same thing idolamantis diobolica it is just not fully grown yet they dont look as beautifull as the first pic i posted till about 14 days after final moult, when they first moult they do look the same but they have no colour for about 2 weeks,



oh and mike im getting a peacock mantis in bout 2 weeks Very Happy what do you think to them?

i some pretty big ones around her ever blue moon i dont know what sp they are but ill try and find out but its rare that i see one in the first place fro some reason

the largste mantis i have seen with my own eyes was 15cm.. that was a mexican mantis, but i have heard they can grow up to just under 20cm

do you mean the Idolomantis diabolica that i put up, it isnt an orchid mantid but it is very beautiful but also virtually impossible to get hold of, and even harder to breed succesfully.
