[Sharing] Show Off Your Enclosures

wow these are some pritty impessive enclosures here lol, il have to upload some pictures of mine:) just need to get my camera

That is one hell of a collection!
You've got to be happy with that, eh?

right top burrow : main burrow and tunnels. both usually sleep here
bottom right : new lean-to area
mid: mating rocks and burrows
left: water dish and fake plant.
bottom: burrows facing me

edit: wow the pic and their light makes it look like mud

Please don't feel as such... Simplicity has functional virtues and is a trait some of us find hard to achieve

yeah i need to learn to cut down and stop buying such huge enclosures when simple ones work fine
scorps arent like us, in that we really like nicer things.

Haven't posted anything in this forum for a while so here goes
I got my Heterometrus male last year and I think that, finally, I've created a setup that we're both happy with

A front view:


You can just about see the entrance to his burrow on the left. It's pre-made but he seems happy and has expanded it all the way down to the corner of the tank. The nice thing is that I made it right next to the glass with a cardboard panel to block out the light so that I can check up on him without having to disturb the substrate. The leaves are oak that I collected from a wood that I study and there is also a small colony of native UK woodlice and springtails in there. I don't use a heatmat at the moment as the room where I keep all my inverts is at a cosy 25 degrees

I hardly ever see him out but it probably means that he's happy and settled and it makes it extra special if I do! And at least the enclosure looks nice .

It looks like you've got a snack hiding under that piece of cork.

I'm a big fan of natural looking enclosures. I love 'landscaping' and creating a little bit of tropical rainforest in my home, it's a big part of keeping inverts for me. The burrow setup worked out much better than I hoped. Initially it was only half the size but he really expanded it down before settling and it's really nice to be able to look in on him once in a while, otherwise all you ever see if you look down the entrance with a flashlight is a very large open claw!

To make the burrow I first put in a good 2in layer of substrate and then set a piece of curved tree bark against the glass on the left side. This is the piece that supports the burrow, there are several other pieces on top and to the side that stop substrate from collapsing in, especially round the entrance. If you look very carefully at the second pic you can just about make it out (it's just some normal tree bark that I found lying around). The angle of the wood to the glass makes sure that it doesn't slip under the weight of the substrate. I then packed more substrate to the side and on top to strengthen and fix the supporting bark in position and also give the burrow more 'depth' relative to the top and dug in the cork bark pieces for a more naturalistic look. Then I put in the plastic plants (that corner is just too dark for real ones), leaves, water dish, woodlice and added Sebastian (the scorp )

Yup, I'll have to take that one out he's been living in there for a couple of days and I think I have a tarantula that can put him out of his misery...

I absolutely agree, very nice setup, well done Chaika ... It looks like you have a Heterometrus petersii... Post closeups of the carapace, operculum, chela, and patella in the ID (new thread) if you haven't already. In which case I can try ID it and determine gender

Thanks,.. I really like it too , and he likes it which is the main thing!
I did post a few photos of him earlier in the year and everyone agreed that he was male (that's why I named him Sebastian). I think that he is H. petersii too. Noone could agree on the species from the photos though, so I had to spend a good couple of hours peering at the granulation pattern on his carapace and measuring his chela etc. and comparing it to the diagrams in the big paper on the different Heterometrus sp. (I think someone on this forum gave me the link for it as well!). He matched the H. petersii profile the best, especially with the prominent 'tooth' on the chela. So now I'm doubly pleased with myself LOL.

wow words cannot even come close to jealous and amazed i am at all of these enclosures. ALL of them are really nice, it just makes me wonder how u guys take care of everything though. must be really hard work. i would post pictures of my enclosure but i am rather embarassed at how plain and simple and small it is since space is very limited in my little room

this is my pandinus imperator enclosure currently housing 2 males and 3 females





and this is my hardrurus arizonesis enclosure

I know I have to change the substrate to peat moss/coco fibre and i have to make changes to the lights by moving them to the out side if you know waht i mean,

Here is the tank with coco fibre and have changed the wood into slightly didfferent place and she has burrowed.







Not sure if there is anything else needed, comments welcome.

This is our work in progress terraruim, Only got it today, So theres no Scorpions in it yet! The UV Light will be replaced as soon as the infra red one turns up! We also want to get some plant life in there, just to add a bit of colour...oh and also...He's using his water bowl at the moment, so thats not in there either lol
