| Ok so I've had my 20 gallon tank set up for a week now and it looks like theres some mold or something starting to grow nere the glass under the coca fibers about 2 inches down. Will this be harmfull to my scorp.Should I clean out the tank and how can I prevent this from happening if it is harmfull? If you want some pics I will get some so you can see exactly what it is.Just let me know | |

| It has little ventilation, I believe. This happened to my setup when I covered it in plastic to keep it humid. White spore/mushroom thing came out from one day to the other. So, less humid or more ventilated. | |

| I know I can find them in my yard I just wanted to make sure it was ok to put them in the tank from the wild.I remember reading somewhere it could be bad putting anything in the tank from the wild because of mites or something like that....But if pill bugs are ok then I can prob find a few tomorrow. | |

| Well they MIGHT have parasites and pesticides I suggest you catch a bunch (A LOT!!!) and raise them for a month or two and get the new generation in with the scorpion. I did use mine straight from my yard but still gotta remember they are WC. | |

| Woodlice roll up, sowbugs don't. They're both isopods.
WC issues are more a problem with feeders, because if they have parasites they (the parasites) could pass from the feeder to the scorpion. | |

| You never know if one might interest the scorpions hunger if it's parasite would pass to the feeder. Just a precaution to take. | |

| Those are indeed sowbugs and not woodlice -- however, both are isopods, so they should be fine to put in with your emps. If anyone's interested: Taxonomy hierarchy goes Kingdom > Phylum > Class > Order > Family > Genus > species. Isopods are all in the same order (other examples of "order" magnitude: scorpions are one order; grasshoppers, crickets, and katydids are one order; primates are all one order; butterflies and moths are one order). The genus Armadillium in the family Oniscidea is the one that can curl into a ball; most other isopods can't do this. The species A. vulgare is the most commonly-encountered "woodlouse." | |
