Abandoned Babies Empty
PostSubject: Abandoned Babies   Abandoned Babies Empty9/2/2013, 2:30 pm

A few weeks back one of my Heterometrus sp (unsure of sp, sold to me as giant hissing scorpions, will put a photo in ID section when permitted) much to my delight presented me with a group of young!! Great I thought till two days later she started to eat them!! I had eight out of twenty five plus that survived the massacre and they were hudled in a small group on the substrate floor. I removed them from her viv and following a guide I found on here I set about getting them through to 2nd instar, all 8 molted and seem to be doing fine. Now my worry is that its been almost three weeks since their molt to 2nd instar and they dont appear to have eaten anything, all food I've put in has been pre killed and a mixture of baby crickets and baby roaches. I know they wont eat for a while after molting and normally I 'm not too concerned but seeing as they've not eaten anything since birth I'd of thought they'd be ravenous by now!!. One thing I would like to add is that I have only been offering food for a week now and they have been 2nd instars for three weeks.

Thanks for the input. I tried live prey just after posting yesterday and the little scorps just ran away!! They dont seem lethargic or lacking energy so i'm not too worried, but it would be nice if they did feed though just to put my mind at rest really. I've never had to raise young this way before so I just want to make sure I give give them the best possible start!!

Admittedly I've only tried baby roaches and crickets, live and pre killed so far, so trying them has gotta be worth a go!! I've got plenty of Drosophila Hydei cultures on the shelf too!!
