| I got a scorpion in Dec and had NO idea she was pregnant. So, now I have 12 scorplings on her back. One molted today and came off... I have NO idea what I am supposed to do to care for these babies, and I don't want any to die. Can anyone help. (i.e., how do I house - in separate cage set up - which I have or in small plastic containers??; how/what do I feed them - they are SO tiny; etc. etc.) Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! | |

| A few weeks after the scorpion gives birth the scorpions on her back will begin to molt and slowly start seperating and climbing off of her. You can seperate them into delicups and reduce the risk of canabalism or keep them together since this species RARELY canabalizes anyways. Just makes sure you keep them on moist peat or soil and temps of about 80-85F. Good luck and anyother question let us know. | |

| What/how should I feed them? They are so tiny...
If I have a tank with peat moss, can I keep all of the babies together for a while?
Some of the babies are having a hard time getting their first molt off their tails... should I help them? (i.e., getting it moist, etc.)

| Also, every time one comes off her back, she acts like she is going to eat it... She picks it up in her pinchers just she does her crickets and starts moving it toward her mouth So, I have gotten 2 away from her and into a new cage. (I have heard from multiple people that they do eat their young!) | |

| Are they a week or more since the birth? If they are off her back before then, its means they havent moulted into 2I Mum will only eat them if there is a problem, such as being stressed of a problem with them. You dont need to feed them when they are on mums back...but if they have come off and are moving about *like mini scorpions* then they will be ok to be rehomed into their own delicup or tank for all of them. When you feed them, headless crickets will be fine. I chopped the heads off and they all feasted until they all went brown and then live small crickets went int. Live food went into the tank at about 3 and a bit weeks from birth. They had their first feed at 2 weeks and 6 days. I do have a scorpling thread that has been running since the birth and a lot of any possible questions have been asked and answered in there xxxxxx | |

| after my scorplings moulted into 2i i seprated them from the mum and placed them in thier own tank, but only because mom started feasting on them. just keep them in the same coditions as an adult emp, and they should do fine. and if they JUST moulted into 2i, give them a week or two for them to harden up properly. offer them headless cricket, and they will feed. this is what i did with my scorplings and they are doing fine. oh - WELCOME ABOARD! | |

| They are 2 weeks and 6 days old and just started coming off mom yesterday evening. 3 off so far, but the others on her back and getting active, so they will be coming off soon. Mom gets really *edit* when I try to get the babies out of the cage after they are off her back...
When you say "headless crickets" - what size are you talking about? pinhead? smalls? I tried to cut up a cricket last night and feed, but they weren't interested... (I only had large crickets, so I cut it into pieces.)
I have the 3 babies in their own tank - just like moms. I am keeping the soil very moist since they are still white.
(I am worried about cannibalization because mom hasn't eaten since the babies were born... she acts like the crickets are bugging her and flicks them away.)

| Pinheads and even small crickets could work. You can go to petco or petsmart and get some fruitflies. | |

| Dont worry about her eating them. if she was going to she would have by now. They are all for sure reaching 2I now. Those that come off just put them into their own tank. Give them all a few days to darken and then try some headless crickets again. Mum clearly doesnt sound interested in food at the moment. Mine wasnt until about a week and a bit after they were all in their own tank. Wait until they are all off her back and looking "bigger". im sure you have seen the differance between 2I and the first stage. What I had to do was remove mum from the tank into a container and then collected the babies as she will be very protective of her young. I collected them with the use of a spoon. xxxx | |

| Just got back from Petco. I got some fruit flies, mini mealworms (perfect size for these babies), and some pinheads. So I think I am set to try a few food options.
Thank you guys so much for your help! I really appreciate it!

| Word to the wise: mealworms like to burrow i suggest crushing their heads or putting them in a bowl/plate. | |

| Keep in mind that the new scorps won't feed until they've had a chance to properly harden up.
Also it's normal for moms to fast before having babies and then for some time after. She was probably pushing the prey away because she saw it more as a threat to her young than she did a packet of calories.

| dont be upset or concerned if they dont eat. After all they are only little and scorpions do fast from time to time. ok so mine eat at every chance but I do have a "runt" that wont feed and when does is only a few mouthfulls it seems. Im holding off the panic hehehe. Fruit flies ARE annoying so watch out! they get everywhere and never seem to just go away! i hate fruit flies with a passion! | |

| All 12 of the babies have been transferred into their new tank. I'm keeping the temps at 80-85, and they are on moist peat moss soil with high humidity. They haven't hardened up yet, so I haven't offered any food. The babies like to huddle around and on top of each other. All seemed to be going well, but I just looked in on them and one of the babies has died... I don't know what happened. Is this common? or have I done something wrong?? | |

| There's always going to be a couple runts who don't make it. Don't panic unless a bunch die all at once. | |
