| Thinking back to being in thailand, I remembered the pain I got in my leg, the "hardness", the burning with the strange numbness and I always thought it must have been a fire ant. Im now starting to think MAYBE...just maybe *although not sure how* that it was a scorpion Who has been stung by a fire ant...is the fire ant the only one to sting? If you have been sting by a fire ant did you get any symptoms like mine? I didnt have any "entry" wound. Was just a sharp pain that got me randomly walking past some bushes into a hotel with some branches over hanging *which made me think ant* and the pain was just...ouchie! The thai people said "ant" and I just accepted it and hobbled about with a hard but not looking swollen leg that was burning. Any ideas. Im now very very curious! Funny how the mind works and can bring back long lost memories! xxxxxxxxx | |

| I've been tagged by a fire ant. And just like the name says it feels really hot like you just got burned in the area. Pain lasted half a day. | |

| There's a LOT of species of ants with painful stings -- I'm not sure what species are native to Thailand, but if you got it from walking past a bush there's a good chance that's what it was. Especially considering some acacia plants have a symbiotic relationship with ants that will aggressively defend anything perceived as a threat to the plant. | |

| No mark for entry. Which is why im now questioning it. It was a pathway into the hotel. In pattaya and there were these bush things, not a thick bush over hanging the path. But I walked past and then I felt the pain. Leg didnt go red. Just sharp pains. Burning and feeling like it was huge but it wasnt swollen. Pain lasted until the next afternoon and then as if nothing had happened. Very strange! | |

| Fire ants sting"enmass" so a single sting is rare, when I was young and stupid living in Florida we used to dare eqwch other to plunge our arms down in a nest to see how much wer could take .Fire ants come from South America but there are many nastys in South East Asia it could have been anything. I am glad you are okay Connie! | |

| oh yes, im very fine. This was in 2006 I believe. We went in jan just after the boxing day disaster. I guess I shall never know. *why didnt I investigate after the incident!* But it sounds to me that maybe it wasnt an ant that stung me since i read they sting as a group or over and over...and also no mark. Whatever it was, it was super painful at the time and very uncomfortable! I was told to buy some "tigar balm" to apply to my leg! I couldnt be bothered so just left it to "heal" by itself and over night it got much better. I just hate that that night we had to walk to go and see this show! *throb throb throb* xxxxxxx | |

| I have been envenomated by many critters that I did not know what they were but luckily no damage but I still wonder what they were. My cat almost died from (What we and the vet suspect) a copperhead snake but she only lost a little skin and is now afraid of snakes. | |

| Living in TX... we have tons of fire ants. Actually just had by yard organically treated last month because they had taken over! I have been bitten many times by single ants - never been swarmed. It does feel hot when it first happens, but after you get a red bump that lasts for a few days and the area is quite sore and a little itchy until it goes away. So, if you were bitten by a fire ant, you would have definitely seen the bite spot. | |

Fire ants are "new world" so Connie was stung by something else. | |
