Emperors Talking?

My first thread here so I thought I'd open up a sort of discussion, if this isn't the right place for soemthing like this, I'm sorry I'm still new, anyhoos:

A long time ago I observed my emperors jiggling to each other, like vibrating and I assumed that it was some form of rudimentary communication seeing as one of their main senses is being able to detect vibrations in the air and substrate. This happened twice that I can remember:

One time was when the male dug a small pit in the corner of the viv and then went about for a walk, one of the females quickly stole this pit and made herself comfortable when the male caught her in the hole he started vibrating side to side as if to say "Shift, thats my seat!" lol

The other I can remember was when I had one of my females in a cricket tub on my computer desk because I was going to try and sex her or look something up or something like that, cant remember. While I was typing away she started doing the same side to side vibrating t thinghe male was doing (must have felt the vibrations from the typing). Noticing it, I tapped my fingers on the desk at about the same speed she was rocking and she "replied", and i managed to keep this up for a few more tries until she lost interest and just started trying to force the lid off. (Was it something I said? )

Do you guys reckon that scorpions use this as some kind of communication or do you beleive it could be something else.

anyway, I've seen this in early instars, usually when food is around, if a sibling comes to close to another that has food, I see them juddering. I've seen it at random times as well... I think it's just a sorta "dominance" thing when food is around, as well as a "I'm not food" thing as well. it's used in mating too, the male judders and when the female recognises the "signal".. Y'know. I think juddering is mainly a mating thing, and used to recognise each other.

The only time I usually see it is when a male is trying to make his presence known to a female early on in courtship. As S111 said, it's called juddering.

I've never really noticed / heard of females doing it. That's interesting that you got yours to reply.

I think it was my female i was "Talking" to its that long ago i cant remember

And I havent seen it since, maybe the male (called hooch ) was just trying to flirt with the female in his wee scrape I dunno.

Anyone ever seen it in other species before?

I think most if not all scorpions judder, It's a vital part of the mating ritual. and I'm sure other communal species do it too.

I keep SF open on another tab sometimes and refresh it every now and then. hence the fast replys.

I've seen mine do this too, most frequently when one has a hopper in its grasp, but this may be because thats when I mostly watch them, That is amazing about the elephants connie, I would like to know more if you could elaborate.

How often have you guys seen it, ive only seen it 2-3 times and ive had my emps fpr over a year now, mind you they dont come out much these days.

I don't see it much, just every now and then at feeding time.

possibly, but like i mentioned my male did it to the female when he caught her in his hole, so maybe they do have some kind of language you never know

i agree no one really knows it could be some sort of communication, i agree with you Ive caught my emps doing it as well. i find it very interesting that she responded to the vibrations like that.

Anyone know of any articles about it at all or any mention of it in books?

EDIT: just looked on google cant find anything just now, might need to have a more thorough search later.

I've noticed that the majority of times that they do it is when they are being introduced to another scorp. Mine have done it before whilst becoming aquanted with oneanother.
